☆The Top 5 In Game Collectibles☆ #GamersUnite

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

As Gamers most us love collecting. Whether it's collecting video games, consoles or magazines, we love a collection of some sort.

Most of us also love completing games to that elusive 100% mark.

So when faced with a whole bunch of collectibles in a video game, no wonder we just can't help but collect em all!

We sat down to cast our minds back over the years to think of our 5 Favourite Collectibles from all the games we've played and here those beauties are!

5. Half Life 2 - Lambda Caches

Half Life 2

In Half Life 2 it felt like every bullet counted, so when you stumbled across that graffiti Lambda scrawl on a wall somewhere you felt the relief that something good was just around the corner. Locating all the caches was a tough ask.

How Many To Collect: 45

What Happens If I Collect 'Em All?
You unlock the Lambda Locator Achievement

4. Metal Gear Solid IV - iPod Tracks

Metal Gear Solid IV

What's cooler than being an undercover bad ass while listening to your iPod? Nothing that's what! Snake is so cool he gets to go round without making a noise whilst listening to his tuuuunes!

How Many To Collect: 34

What Happens If I Collect 'Em All?
You unlock the Trophy "Sounds Of The Battlefield"

3. Red Dead Redemption - "Treasure Maps"

Red Dead Redemption

The Treasure Maps Red Dead hint at the location of undiscovered treasure! You have to explore the game to find certain landmarks that match the treasure map, and search the area for the buried Treasure Chest!

It's a simple idea but loads of fun as a side quest distraction, many an hour has been lost searching for buried treasure my friends!

How Many To Collect: 9

What Happens If I Collect 'Em All?
You Get Loads Of treasure and the "Treasure Hunters Satchel"

2. Bioshock - Audio Files

Bioshock

The Audio Files that you are able to collect in Bioshock act as the main narrative device of the BioShock series.

They are audio diaries and monologues that were recorded by certain citizens of Rapture.

This clever way of allowing you to discover the plot really adds to the atmosphere of the game and adds layers to the city of Rapture by giving you a sneek peek of what the citizens were thinking and feeling at the time the madness took over the city!

A really simple idea that is brilliantly implemented to full effect.

How Many To Collect: 122

What Happens If I Collect 'Em All?
Historian Trophy/Achievement

1. Fallout 3 - "Bobbleheads"

Fallout 3

Fallout 3 is massive and there are thousands of things to collect and hoard, but most of them are useless and pretty drab.

When you search the wasteland for hours only to find tin cans and bits of metal, the sight of a little Bobble Headed Vault Boy just cheekily staring at you fills a Wasteland wanderer with joy!

This little guy brings happiness to a player as not only do you get to store each one on your bobblehead display stand in your home, but you also get the associated SPECIAL stat increase of 1 point or the Skill increase of 10 points applied to your character.

All round these are coolest most unique collectibles we've come across in all of our video games playing times. Check out their little faces......you gotta catch em all!

How Many To Collect: 20

What Happens If I Collect 'Em All?
The first achievement or trophy is named "Yes, I Play with Dolls" and is awarded for collecting 10 of them, players then earn the second achievement/trophy called "Vault-Tec C.E.O." for finding all 20 of them.

☆Game Of The Day "The Secret Cove"☆ @CheekySprite #GamersUnite #PointAndClick

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

The Secret Cove, Cheeky Sprite, Point And Click

Today's Game Of The Day is The Secret Cove By Cheeky Sprite Studios

We were drawn to this lovely looking point n click by the smart in browser game used to promote the upcoming game in 2014

The Guys from Cheeky Sprite have said the following:

"In 2014 we will be releasing a point & click adventure game ‘The Secret Cove’

The game will be based on the stunning scenery and locations from across the (UK) Cornish county.

There are so many well known locations to choose from and also some real hidden gems.

Lots of research is going into the locations we select and incorporate to really fit with the storyline."

We like the idea of basing an adventure game on the wonderful coastal landscapes of the Cornish County as we think there aren't enough games that portray the UK within their gameplay.

For those who have never experienced the wonderful Cornish County, this will be a real treat and for those know the beauty of that area of the UK will be eager to experience such a novel experience.

Cheeky Sprite will be releasing the game across Android, iOS and Windows. It feels like the mobile platforms (especially tablets) would really suit this game.

We can't wait to see and play the finished article as it will feature a Cornish Smuggling Theme and storyline. We love this type of game and the point and click are truly one of our fave genres of all time.

We will keep you all updated with progress on this cool looking and sounding game as soon as we get it!

☆BBS "The Documentary"☆ #RetroGaming #GamersUnite

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

Over the last few weeks we have been learning each evening about the wonderful world of Bulletin Board Systems (BBS)

We have been undertaking our education through the cool set of BBS films known as BBS "The Documentary" made by Jason Scott Sadofsky

There are 8 parts to the documentary and for us it was a real eye opener that explains exactly how the BBS was the forerunner that led to the internet as we know it today.

The thing we found most amazing was how online multi-player was born in the world of BBS.

Some of the text adventures of the time enabled you to interact with other online gamers who were playing the same game as you.

A particularly scene from the documentary sees a text adventurer describe the delight as he found a fellow player in the game who guided him through one of the trickier parts of the game. The delight in his face sums up the same delight we all get today from playing online.

Later on in the documentary we get to learn about the cool sounding turn based online multiplayer game "Trade Wars"

Again, Trade Wars was seen as the forerunner for a new gaming genre, this time though it was the MMO genre.

The fact that the BBS Games were free made them accessible to so many and really enabled these new genres to blossom into what we know them as today.

The more we work through the fantastic BBS Documentaries, the more we realise just how much ,as gamers and users of the internet, we owe to those BBS Pioneers of the day.

Take a look through the marvellous documentaries today, they are well worth your time ......... especially if you're a Geek like us! ;)

No Dead, Folk, RetroGaming

After undertaking our usual sift through the coolest games in the world right now we stumbled upon this absolute beauty! "NO DEAD FOLK"

The look of this game is right up our street. Pixel Art Graphics Retrogaming Goodness is what we love best!

The game itself is currently under construction by a Game Dev by the name of "Jacob Yard"

No Dead Folk, Retrogaming

Read what Jacob has to say about his cool project:

"Just to confirm. I am currently developing a small platform game for my uni portfolio.

I am currently 18 and getting ready for university, please take into consideration i’m pretty busy.

No Dead Folk! is a retro zombie survival game inspired by games such as ‘Oregon Trail’ and ‘Wasteland’.

It is currently in early stages. I will be updating through twitter and this blog.

You can follow me on twitter at @soJAKEable and search  #nodeadfolk on twitter.
I would appreciate your support :)

We may potentially create something great."

Jacob is looking to carry through the retro feel throughout the game with old style look and feel to the No Dead Folk World.

There's not much more detail on the actual game than this but we are loving the look of how it's shaping up from these early pics.

Hopefully Jacob will achieve his goal and get this beauty released at some point.

When that happens, we'll be right on hand to give you the full low down on this cool video game!

It Was About Time That We had a Good Old Trawl Through The Coolest Video Game Related Kickstarter Campaigns Around To See What We Could Share With You All....

As we were browsing mountains of great video games stuff this beauty caught our eye!

"MEGA MAN THE BOARD GAME"

Check Out What It's All About, Taken Straight From The Horses Mouth:

"In the year 20XX, Jasco Games created Mega Man™ the Board Game.

Destined to grace tabletops everywhere, the board game takes the classic formula that made the original Blue Bomber so memorable and transfers it to a whole new arena.

This officially licensed board game brings gamers and board game enthusiasts everything they love about Mega Man: iconic robot masters, sinister villains, incredible power ups, and polished game play.

Created by fans of Mega Man and the publisher of the Universal Fighting System CCG, the board game is Jasco Games’ love letter to one of the best video game characters of all time.

We have launched this Kickstarter for two reasons.

First, and most importantly, we’re seeking funding to make this the board game we always wanted to make. Kickstarter funding will allow us to use better materials, offer more extras like miniatures, cards, extra boards, and polish the finalized product, giving fans an even better experience and something that will be worthy of any Mega Man enthusiast’s collection.

Second, we wanted fans to have a chance to show their support for Mega Man and be involved in this exciting process."

Check Out The Kickstarter HERE

For a taste of what Elite are trying to achieve, read below:

1. Elite® Announce Recreation of Sinclair® ZX Spectrum®

"Recently, you may have seen or heard mention of plans for the recreation of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum. The Sinclair ZX Spectrum is an 8-bit personal home computer released in the UK in 1982 by Sinclair Research Ltd. Since launch, some 10,000 games have been created for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum. Production of the device ceased in 1990, by which time more than 5 million units had been sold worldwide, primarily in the UK and Spain and also in significant numbers elsewhere."

2. Announcing The Bluetooth® ZX Spectrum®

"Well we’re pleased to be able to tell you something more about those plans (and what you can do to help us get it in to production by the Spring of 2014)."
"The recreated Sinclair ZX Spectrum will be a Bluetooth keyboard, initially for iOS and subsequently for Android and Windows phones and tablets (as well as for PCs and Macs), in the form-factor of a 48K Sinclair ZX Spectrum. It will be known as the Bluetooth ZX Spectrum. ZX Spectrum is a licensed trade mark. The Bluetooth ZX Spectrum will connect wirelessly to, for example, an iPad and in turn to a TV via Apple Airplay.”

Last But Definitely Not Least Is This Beautifully Created Zelda-esque Indie RPG Framed Wings

Take a good look at the Kickstarter Video to this lovely looking game in action.

Read Why This Game Dev Needs KickStarter Assistance Below.......

"Framed Wings is an independently made fantasy RPG with elements close to those of Zelda games. The game shall be packed with quests, dungeons, intense boss battles, and much more. Framed Wings is being developed using the RPG Maker XP engine. At the moment I am quite early into development and have run into many issues, which is why I've turned to Kickstarter for support.

In order to make this game the best it can be, I need money. My equipment at present is lacking and it's holding up the development of the game. The computer I'm using is very old and, as of late, crashes whenever it feels like it. I don't currently have a job, meaning I lack the income to replace the computer. I've already had hours of game development lost thanks to the computer suddenly dying."

Hopefully That Little Lot has Whetted Your Appetite For Cool KickStarter Campaigns.

We'll be doing some more trawling on your behalf and will report back SOON!

☆Website Of The Day "Internet Archive"☆ #RetroGaming #GamersUnite

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

After watching the brilliant Documentary Film "Get Lamp" by Jason Scott Sadofsky we were curious about his research and decided to take a look at one of the websites that he gave thanks to in the end credits.

The Internet Archive is a non-profit website that is looking to build a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts. It provides free access to all sorts of cool stuff.

We were of course interested in searching through the Software Repository section that is contained within the site.

It covers a whole multitude of different retrogaming systems and some PC Classics.

Not only does it contain a whole host of information on the systems and games it also enables you to legally download some of the games.

Within the software section you are able to visit the "Historical Software Collection"

This section contains selected historically important software packages from the Internet Archives. It utilises in-browser emulators and you are able to try out these historical pieces of software without the additional burdens of installing emulator software.

The next section that you can spend hours in is the "Classic PC Games" Section where you can take a step back in time and play some of the coolest DOS and Windows games from yesteryear. The collection is constantly growing and evolving, so keep checking back on this one and fire up your Dos Box!

The next interesting section for you to get your Geek On is the "ShareWare CD Archive"

"One of the most historically important artifacts to come from the home computer telecommunications revolution was shareware CDs, compact discs put out by companies containing hundreds of megabytes of shareware. Initially containing less than the full capacity of the discs (600mb, later 700mb) these items eventually began brimming with any sort of computer data that could be packaged and sold."

Finally, the section that held our interest the most had to be "The Console Living Room"

This beauty of a RetroGaming section holds over 1000 items and covers most of the earliest systems such as Atari 2600, Magnavox Odyssey etc.

It also enables you to run the game in browser with some really cool emulator software to get a taste for how these cool systems ran the games.

Before we go and let you discover all this great stuff for yourselves, why don't you also check out "The Old School Emulation Center"

This really is a jewel in the crown of the "Internet Archive" every conceivable system is covered and all this is backed up by a TOSEC site that is maintained by our new fave director Jason Scott Sadofsky.......

A nice piece of symmetry to end our excited article with.....

Now go to The Internet Archive and immerse your brains in all the retrogaming glory you can find!

Let us know how you get on

☆Game Of The Day "Badland"☆ @BadLandGame #Android #GamersUnite

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

During the holiday season the usual gaming devices were put to rest for a while as we searched for our gaming thrills through our newly acquired GOOGLE NEXUS 7.
Using this cool device has shone new light on the Google Play Games selection for us as the Nexus 7 is optimised perfectly to play the coolest games available on the market.
The game that has taken up most of our time this festive season is the Wonderful Badland...

We might be a little late to the party on this one as it's been about for a while now...

Anyways, let's attempt to explain to you what it's all about......
.
Well let's start with how it all begins........
You are spat out of an industrial waste pipe of some sorts quite abruptly and there you are seemingly stranded an inhospitable forestry type environment that looks full of nasties and beady watching eyes.....
Immediately you are drawn in by the game's incredibly foreboding atmosphere....

The game puts you slightly on edge from moment one. We recommend plugging some earphones in and fully appreciating the subtle sound effects that really draw you in to the situation...
So what is actually going on here?
Well it seems as though you are some kind of hedgehog like creature that can sort of fly (badly) and its down to you to guide this poor unfortunate creature through the treacherous environment!
And Boy is this a treacherous environment!!

Make no mistake, every route is paved with traps and dastardly fiendish little puzzles.
It reminds us of a cross between Limbo and Sonic The Hedgehog. Some levels are played at a blistering pace and others are a struggle against the environment which really gets your pace racing!
By pressing the screen you make your HedgeHogBird Thingy fly forwards and by releasing the screen you fall lower. A nice and simple game mechanic used to great effect.

Scattered around each level are various "power ups" / "power downs" that help or hinder your progress through the level.

These consist of the following:

There's an orb that Clones your fuzzy dude and this pack of fuzzy dudes increases your chances of surviving the environmental onslaught!

There's an orb that makes you Grow Larger which can help or hinder you. It will help if you need to break through certain parts of the level or hinder you if space is tight.

There's also an orb that makes you Smaller and then smaller still so you can squeeze through the tiniest spaces!

The "Jelly Orb" turns you into a bouncy ball jelly style fuzzy dude that will struggle to progress if you hit the sides too many sides as you frantically try and bounce through the level.

Overall we absolutely love this game as it draws you in and gives you something more than your average Endless Runner type game. It's a runner with brains and character like no other.

That's why we will award it a GAMESFREEZER FROZEN DELIGHT :
