☆I Am Street Fighter☆ @AREA5 #RetroGaming #GamersUnite

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

If you are a gamer of a certain age you will remember the heady days of arcade greatness when Street Fighter II cabinets were in every chip shop, video shop and Newsagents across the land.

With those cabinets came the queues of "New Challengers" and wannabe Kings Of The Arcade.

It was a time when just as many people came to watch as those who came to play.

Street Fighter II was and still is a phenomenon that so many of us have enjoyed both in its natural habitat (the arcade) and at home on the many many console conversions.

Don't forget the hacked editions of the arcade machine that also appeared in the arcades such as the "Rainbow Edition"

Such was the demand for these hacked editions that Capcom had to release an official updated version of Championship Edition.

The "I Am Street Fighter" Documentary captures the spirit and feel of Street Fighter and really gets across what it felt like to play Street Fighter back in those halcyon days of arcade gaming.

There is a part where they talk about the symbolism of putting your 20p or 25c on the machine to signify that YOU are the next challenger which really resonated with us.

Please take an hour of your time to sit down and watch this gem of a documentary and hopefully you will enjoy it just as much as we did.

Let us know what you thought of this brilliant documentary?

What other cool Videogames documentaries or films would you recommend for us at Games Freezer to watch?

You Still there?

AdventurOS - Fiendishly Different!

Every Now And Again A Concept For A Game Comes Along That Really Gets You thinking..........

AdventurOS is one such game that really got us thinking and we LOVE the sound of it!

AdventurOS is the brainchild of  Evelend Games and our fave Game Dev @MissScripter (a.k.a Lorena Casanova)

 What is AdventurOS?

AdventurOS is a "Metroid-Vania" styled game that will allow you to enjoy your operating system and it's file structure like you never thought was possible before.
The Game World that you will enter is entirely auto-generated by the content of your computer!

Each room, object, enemy, puzzle, key, treasure, boss... Is actually an interpretation of the files and folders located on the computer where the game is running.

These game items and NPCs are actually determined by the way they are organized.

The coolest feature of the game is there will never be two identical versions of the AdventurOS game worlds!

Just imagine how your game could look like!

Exciting Stuff eh!?

What's The Story?

"The architect has a problem. Together with his castle, all the creatures who live in it are in danger.

A big crisis is therefore faced by The Architect! Regardless of the safety measures taken to protect his castle, this fateful day has come!

There is an unwelcome visitor among the guests of the castle and to make matters worse they are hidden behind a harmless appearance.

This despicable intruder has cast a curse in order to achieve his goal: To take over the architect's wealth and dominate all his inhabitants.

A band of voluntaries have now settled into his castle, lead by their heroic captain who is determined to free them from the damned curse.

Will he be able to overcome the challenges the evil intruder puts before him?

Fight your own files turned into monsters, level up by exploring your castle, customize your character, solve puzzles and get ready for the evil bosses!"

How much would you like to play this ingeniously fiendish new game?

Well, in order to make this great project reality, the AdventurOS Team require YOUR SUPPORT!

The Team Have Set Up An INDIEGOGO Campaign in order to raise the required funding to develop and distribute the game.

BUT.......Before you visit the INDIEGOGO page, let's meet the Team!

Emilio and AndrΓ© MarΓ Coppola brothers, a.k.a Evelend Games:

Emilio Mari manages the programming for their games and Andre Mari
creates the audiovisuals - the sprite work, music and other art
work.

Emilio and Andre were both born in Argentina and raised in Spain.
Their most popular game is Pixelry.

Emilio has taken part in many open source projects. One of his creations is
Stellar, a python version of the popular creation tool Game Maker which is
still in development.

Andre also collaborated on other games as an artist, most recently Andre created and released Super Tower Rush together with Miss Casanova.

Lorena Casanova a.k.a @MissScripter:

This devoted indie is responsible for the code of Super Tower Rush, with Mr MarΓ Coppola as an artist as mentioned before.

Lorena was introduced to programming while she collaborated with the Evelend brothers as a proofreader for Pixelry.

Not long after that she was encouraged to produce her first solo release, which brought Antipodes to life, the first in what is becoming a long list of development achievements.

Now we have met the team let us get a move on over to the INDIEGOGO Fund Raising Page where we can begin to contribute to this wonderful project and learn a bit more about the wonderful world of AdventurOS!

Heroes Of Steel - The Latest Title From Trese Brothers

Heroes of Steel is a work in progress game that came out of our successful KickStarter, and the 5th game by Trese Brothers!

The Trese Brothers have pulled together a cracking set of Games for Android devices and their latest release Heroes of Steel has really caught our eye!

The Trese Brothers were looking to create an epic turn-based mobile fantasy RPG and came up with Heroes Of Steel concept.

It's a squad-based tactical role-playing game set in the World of Steel.

The Trese Brothers were looking to create a game that is deeper than your average Android game by really engaging the player in the Game World and the Game System.

Combat In Action!
Heroes Of Steel has actually come about due to a successfully funded Kickstarter Campaign.

Even though the KickStarter has closed, if you are interested in helping to fund the Heroes of Steel project, you can still join by pledging at the PayPal backers’ page.

You can also Keep up to date with the latest Heroes of Steel development progress on the Trese Brothers YouTube channel.

Heroes of Steel will be released on the Android, OUYA, and iOS devices because of achieving it's stretch goals through the Kickstarter campaign!

Heroes Of Steel also be shipped with eight character classes, and a map of the complicated underground world of Steel.

One of the most exciting things about this game is the level of character depth that will allow for 16 valid group combinations.

This really gives the game a depth rarely seen on the Android platform.

If you want to stay connected with the KickStarter progress, join the Trese Brothers Facebook page

Meanwhile here's a short Bio on the Trese Brothers in their own words:

"Cory and Andrew are two brothers who have spent their lives together making games.

We were always the first player in each other's games from a very early age, and started home-brewing systems before we knew what the term meant.

We've spent countless hours creating of pen and paper games, stories and campaigns to share with our friends around the table.

In mid-2010, Cory picked up an Android and started tinkering with a game idea he had in his favourite genre, space trading games.

And so Star Traders was born.

It was not long before we realized how powerful of a platform mobile gaming was to share our ideas, stories, and worlds with a larger audience.

Over the last three years, we have built four games and run one successful KickStarter to build our fifth [Heroes Of Steel]

We have updated these games hundreds of times with new content, story, characters, upgraded artwork, maps and sub-plots.

We are extremely dedicated to our customers, listening to them, and making our games better with them.

We love our games, and we play them every day.

We believe we run a pretty unique business model and we love what we do with a major passion.

We are very excited to have recently announced that we have transitioned to full time game development, both of us leaving full time software engineering positions.  So, its working!

We hope you will join us by trying out one or more of our games and seeing them grow every week!"

Looks COOL Doesn't It!

We Love A Gadget....
We Especially Love A Video-Gaming Gadget....

BUT

We absolutely adore a Retro Gaming Video Game Related Gadget!!

We stumbled across the RETRODE whilst looking for some COOL pics for The Games Freezer Pinterest Board.

Firstly we think it looks really good. Sleek, Black and Compact.

So, what does this bad boy do then? Make toast? Wash dishes?
No my friends it does much more important things than that.

This little Black Box Of Tricks allows you to play SEGA Genesis and Super Nintendo cartridges through your Computer, Smartphone or Tablet, using your original cartridges and controllers!

It allows you to do this using a USB cable into your chosen device and syncs itself with the emulation software of choice.

It does all this without the need for hardware drivers and will therefore operate on any USB host, under any operating system, using any type of emulator.

The thing we like the most about the RETRODE is how it allows up to FOUR SNES or MEGADRIVE controllers to be plugged into it for multi-player mayhem!

Just imagine 4 player NBA JAM on this cool piece of kit!

We had a look on the RETRODE website and found this step by step guide which seems easy enough to follow....take a look below...

How it works.......

  1. Find and install emulator.
  2. Plug cartridge into Retrode, and connect controllers. Of course, if you only want to use either the cartridge or a controller, that’s fine with us.
  3. Connect Retrode to computer. No drivers needed.
  4. Play! Load ROM into the emulator, configure the controllers, and you’ll be playing in no time.
Looking at this gorgeous gadget makes us want one RIGHT NOW!

Head on over to the Retrode Website now and take a look!

Also Head over to the Retrode Community Website for a taste of what this baby can really do!

Tell us what you think of The Retrode.......

☆The History Of "CONSOLE WARS"☆

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

Having observed from the sidelines over the last few months The Games Freezer team has seen the hype and frenzy of the supposed "Console Wars" reach new HIGHS and LOWS as we see Sony & Microsoft trade daily blows in almost real time via all manner of social networks and media outlets.

It has been made all the more intense due to the long wait for a next generation of consoles and the fact that the so called "fanboys" have an instant way of showing their Love for their chosen console and a Hate for the opposing console.

Now we don't agree with the use such a genuinely exciting set of events to create a warring tension between gamers, but when we look back over the years we find that this kind of War Of Words & Consoles has been going on since 1975!

So nothing new at all really except nowadays the marketing machine and hype is more in your face…..

We decided to look at the greatest match ups over the years to see who dealt the knock-out blows since 1975 up until the present day, whilst also adding in our own scoring system to decide the winner of each Round!

So without further ado……."Seconds Out……ROUND 1……FIGHT!"

Here's a book for those who L♡VE learning about the history of gaming and home computers like we do.

Games writer Dan Whitehead has published a C☆☆L book called Speccy Nation: A Tribute to the Golden Age of British Gaming.

It covers the beautiful and almighty  ZX Spectrum home computer.

Dan Whitehead takes a good look at 50 of the best and obscure ZX Spectrum games that contributed to the DNA of 'The Speccy' through the golden age of UK home gaming and bedroom coders.

The Speccy ended up with a software library of over 24,000 titles!
The Speccy was ahead of its time with a wide range of software that included programming tools, word processors, spreadsheet programs, drawing and art programs, It was the workhorse all rounder personal computer of its time.
Such is the love of the Speccy to this day, the creation of new Spectrum titles by devoted fans continues!
The game devs of the Speccy era are the stars of their day who worked with resources that were extremely limited by modern game devs standards.
The first Speccy released in 1982 were available in two models, one with 16 Kilobytes of RAM!!
Then came the next advanced model which meant you had access to an eye watering 48 kB of RAM!!
If you want to see how the Speccy changed the face of home computers for a nation and a generation then we suggest you grab a copy pronto.

Let us know how you got on with Speccy Nation, was it a good read?

We'd Love to know your fave Gaming or Computing related reads so as we can feature your faves in future Games Freezer articles!

Calum has created some epic Game Art with a twist.......All of the Game Art featured here by Calum is inspired by some of the most awesome Video Games Quotes from over the years.

We love this idea and were really impressed by the simplicity of the idea and the excellent style in which it has been executed.

Before we take a look at Calum's Gallery lets hear a little bit about what inspired his Game Art and some words about the man himself....

"I care about gaming a lot and wanted to show it off.

I chose the most predominant quotes from some of my favourite games, that happen to span nearly 25 years.

I wanted to show that no matter the age of the game, the best games still have a classic, memorable moment.

I'm 23, UK I've been a gamer since before I could walk, and still game today."
