I haven’t played the two previous games in the series but from what I can gather this is more of the same.

The Hero of the Kingdom series seems to be geared more towards causal players as the game has the faintest whiff of a story about it but the real focus here appears to be grinding and passing time, two factors that make me feel that this would be more at home on a tablet or phone than a PC.

💰🎮💰 How To Earn Money From Your Gaming Passion 💰🎮💰

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

In pre-internet days, gaming was something we did to kick back and relax at the end of a busy day. From playing Monty Mole on our Commodores to playing Sonic on our Megadrives, we spent our hard-earned cash on games that would entertain us.

Then the internet arrived, and gaming changed forever. It allowed us to become more social, giving us the opportunity to play games online with people from around the world.

It gave us the opportunity to play downloadable games, allowing us to play games almost instantly (unless you were on dial-up), instead of having to trek to the High Street games store for something to play. And the internet gave us the opportunity to do something many obsessive gamers have always dreamed of: the ability to make money from gaming!

As I’m sure many people reading this can relate to, I’ve always had a fascination with spy thrillers, no doubt started by watching one too many Bond movies as a kid and marvelling at how 007 manages to save the world time and again while wisecracking, raising eyebrows and bedding every woman that walks within 15 metres of him.

I must admit that I was subtly blown away by The Gardens Between, its genius crept upon me over the couple of hours that I spent in the world of Arina and Frendt, the two protagonists in this wonderful wordless puzzle adventure from The Voxel Agents.

Procedurally generated games all have the same question hanging over them, ‘is the procedural generation there to cover up the fact that there was no time to design levels individually?’
It’s something that doesn’t really gel with me, I’ve had some good times with games that utilised procedural-generation as a main feature such as Nongunz and Last Encounter but for the most part my experience has been pretty negative and sadly, 99Floors suffers from the usual pitfalls of this particular design quirk.

Epsilon Games’ first title, Destination Primus Vita, is set primarily in a virtual simulation. As each crew member ‘sleeps’ on their lengthy voyage, the on-board AI, Nim, creates a custom-made simulation for each crew member in order to keep them stimulated during their stasis and generate situations which not only aid their mission against a malevolent alien race called ‘Shatters’ but also work through specific neuroses and personal politics that the AI feels may affect their overall mission.

Following on from my earlier preview of Lamplight City a month ago, whilst I was completely ensconced in its steamy, conversation-driven detective ways, I was concerned if the depth and immersion could be kept up for the full length of the game and it turns out yes, it can. Good.

Review By DarkBlueMonkey
Like many, I’ve recently found myself turning away from the high-price Triple-A games towards the indie scene for my fix of truly novel gaming. As a long-time fan of the space trading and 4X genre, I’m always on the lookout for really innovative takes on a traditional formula.

If I’m to get into a game, it needs to have a certain amount of depth in which to immerse my imagination, and it has to be said that few studios do depth like the two-man team of Cory and Andrew Trese.

Top-down arcade racers have always been a great genre for parties, most gamers in their thirties and forties will have memories of booting open the arcade doors and strutting  straight over to the triple steering-wheel sporting ‘Iron Man’ Ivan Stewart’s Super Off Road or huddling around a CRT TV hooked up to a Mega Drive, listening to the booming midi drum beats that heralded the arrival of Codemasters’ Micro Machines and there’s probably not an Amiga owner in the world without a copy of Acid Software’s Super Skidmarks in their game stack.
