It’s been a long time now since the likes of pong and Pacman started entertaining kids and adults alike. There are plenty of middle-aged folks out there now who will remember playing these games as a young child.

The video game industry is now what you could consider as being a mature industry. It has gone through loads since the first arcade games in the seventies started finding their way into our homes. 

When the early home entertainment systems such as the NES started appearing in the living rooms of kids across the world, people probably thought that the future was there and that things could not get better than that.

The newest entry in Suda51’s No More Heroes franchise is an odd one.

The neon-tinged, smash-cut, in-your-face and zany presentation just doesn’t match up with the gameplay which, whilst having moments of intensity, is surprisingly repetitive and ultimately a bit boring.

Most of us are familiar with and have probably played at least one in this very cutesy role-playing, farm simulation game series.

If you haven’t, you should go and do so now (You know I’m right)!

The series first hit our good, old-fashioned CRT monitors in Japan back in 1996 with the first game in the series, Harvest Moon, on the Super Nintendo (Yes, I was around then, I was a decade old!). Since then the franchise has evolved greatly and has been seen across many platforms - mostly Nintendo - but also PlayStation and IOS.

There's a line in Ghostbusters where Ray says that the blueprints for Dana's apartment building were drawn by "either a certified genius or an authentic wacko", and that sums up exactly how I feel about this game.

Deadly Premonition: Origins is, at its core, an unholy union of survival horror and a detective game. You play FBI Agent Francis York Morgan (everybody calls him York, apparently), who's been called in to solve the grisly murder of a local girl.

Battle Princess Madelyn will release on the EU and AU|NZ PlayStation Store on October 18th.

Ah, here we are, sandwiched between ‘soixante-neuf’ and ‘solace’. 

Sojourn. A noun meaning ‘a temporary stay’.

There’s certainly an ephemeral flavour to Shifting Tides’ new puzzle game of that name, but such is the difficulty of some levels (controller-snappingly so at times), temporary was not necessarily the word I’d use. 

I over-stayed my patience on a few puzzles, I can tell you.

Senran Kagura Burst Re: Newal is a remake of the original game released back in 2011 on 3DS. It was a side-scrolling game and called Senran Kagura: Skirting Shadows but for its Western releases later in 2013- 2014.  

Then in 2018 Senran Kagura Burst Re: Newal got released as a full remake of the game on PlayStation 4 going away from its side-scrolling 2D to a 3D open areas where you fight the enemies.

🕵️‍♂️ Call of Cthulhu - REVIEW - (Nintendo Switch) - "My First First Lovecraft Inspired Game" 🔎 #GameDev #IndieGames

Call Of Cthulu was released last year on PS4, Steam, Xbox One and it's now on my favourite console this month, the Nintendo Switch.

Call Of Cthulu follows the release of another game based on one of Lovecraft stories; The Sinking City which came to the Switch on September 12th 2019. 

The stories of H.P. Lovecraft have been in so many different games, they should have a studio based on just Mr Lovecraft's stories!

The video game is an adaption of the role-playing game of the same name as the book from 1981. The role-playing game was actually based on the book sharing the same name that was released in 1926.

⚔️ The Surge 2 - REVIEW - "The Best ‘Dark Souls-esque’ Game I’ve Played" ⚔️ #TheSurge2

Having never played the original ‘The Surge’ and, upon reading into it, finding out that it was dismissed by some as a Dark Souls clone, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from the Surge 2. 

After spending several hours with it, I was surprised to find that, whilst it does come from that genre of difficulty being a focused gameplay feature, it’s a really strong and involving example of the style that absorbed me far more than I was anticipating.

🛩️🗺️ 80 Days - REVIEW [Nintendo Switch] - "Jump On The Robot Horse & Carriage From Dubrovnik To Belgrade" 🗺️🛩️ #GameDev #IndieGames

80 Days was originally a mobile game, then it was ported to the PC, and now it's made its way to the Nintendo Switch.

It fits well on the Switch with its massive library of hidden gems.

The game is a text-based game of old but mixed with a steampunk theme and with an added animation style of its own.

Throughout the game, you need to make sure your master's health is maintained and that you have enough money to transport yourself across the world.
