Britt's iOS Odyssey - Adventure To Fate: Dungeons iOS Review 9/10 "A dungeon that begs to be delved into" 🧙‍♂️ @AdventureToFate #IndieGame #GameDev

Adventure To Fate: Dungeons iOS Review
This is effectively part 2 of my iOS odyssey into finding the best single player RPGs on mobile. In the previous instalment I covered both Dawncaster, and Caves of Lore – both very different games with the linking factor that they were both awesome, a theme that I’m glad to say very much continues on here, with Adventure To Fate: Dungeons.

I want to say upfront that developer Touchmint is a very active dev, with this being a one-cost game, meaning that you pay just once and get full access not only to the entire game, but also any future packs that may be added. Very cool stuff, and this openness is bolstered through the accessibility features that Touchmint has added to ensure that as many people as possible can enjoy the game, regardless of their abilities.

A turn-based roguelite dungeon crawler, Adventure To Fate: Dungeons has myriad options for you to personalise your style of play, from casual through to permadeath and hellish modes. Choosing your starting adventure from the classes available, you then proceed into the depths of one of the three dungeons available before getting to grips with the possibilities offered to you by the 5x5 grid that makes up each floor. You’ll find trading shrines, loot, permanent upgrades and of course - enemies. The combat is a turn-based affair, and whilst certain weapon and armour types are locked behind classes, the sheer amount of items and equipment you come across, as well as the volume of spells wielded by both your character and your spirit – an entity controllable in combat that acts as a backup fighter to your character – means that you really can cobble together any sort of avatar and setup that you see fit.

Adventure To Fate: Dungeons iOS Review

Adventure To Fate: Dungeons is an incredibly satisfying game to play, the audio design is top notch, with each dungeon having its own musical themes that are super catchy and keep the energy of the game up, whilst the pixel graphics bring the funky creature creations to life. After the terrifying UI of Caves of Lore, which is pretty vast and loosely explained, I’m pleased to say that here, everything is intuitive, and I felt in control of the menus and my decisions, understanding the mechanics within a few minutes, it’s one of those titles where digging into what you’ve unlocked / found after each battle is as satisfying as exploring and battling itself. Permanent unlocks, passive upgrades, and working out the balance between your weapons and magic means you’ll be pottering in your crafting, inventory, and spell-book menus for a good while, adjusting your setup on the fly, dependent on which enemy types are on the current floor.

The constant background stats that pop up such as how many of each enemy type you’ve bested so far keep the action feeling quite kinetic, and it’s fun knowing that you are only one skeleton away from unlocking a saucy permanent boon to your character for the rest of the run. I also found the difficulty to be well-balanced, there’ll be a few floors that you blaze through, and then suddenly - one monster will have you barely clinging on, getting hips deep in tactical decisions, using up all of your potions – and then leave you hoping that a healing shrine or item store is close by before you keel over at the hands of your net batch of enemies (I look at YOU poison spiders!)

SUMMARY

Adventure To Fate: Dungeons is a game that can both be sessioned or just dipped in and out of for a few minutes, making it the perfect title for mobile gaming. An absolute corker, and a game that will be installed on my device for a looong time. Honestly, it’s a steal at its current price, and strikes the balance between traditional turn-based gameplay with modern sensibilities that deliver moment-to-moment satisfaction and joy in progression and unlocks. A huge thumbs up from us here at GF!
