Over the coming weeks, the team here at GF will be sharing their favourite gaming channels on YouTube.
Here are the channels that Britt keeps returning to!
Kim Justice –
The channel I’ve probably been watching for the longest period of time, Kim’s passion for gaming bleeds through the screen, and it’s always a genuine pleasure to sit down with a glass of wine and plough through her lengthy docs, especially the ones with a focus on the 8-bit microcomputers. An awesome documentarian who really knows her stuff!
Slope’s Game Room –
I’ve met Dan a couple of times over the years at conventions and even had a couple of pints with him at NQ64 in London a few years back, a lovely bloke and his distinctive baritone has kept me company during many a day at the office. His light approach to topics, and breezy style of discourse means that I’ve been a longtime subscriber and will be for some time to come!
‘Guru’ Larry Bundy Jr. –
I recently picked up his ‘Fact Hunt’ book as I once again worked through all of his back catalogue. Not as prolific as he was previously, but the short sharpness of his back catalogue gives them a re-watchability – and there’s even some Surf Coasters music used in a few, so that’s an instant recommendation from me!
World of Longplays –
There’s not enough time in the day to spend as much time revisiting and discovering games as I’d like…but there is enough time in the day to work whilst someone else puts in the hard gaming graft in the background, allowing me to get a quick hit of nostalgia, or perhaps see the rest of a game that was beyond my skill level, or was otherwise unavailable to me. A great repository of folks completing games across myriad systems, and one that is continually updated regularly, bloody lovely stuff.
Ahoy –
Is there anything more calming than the voice of Stuart Brown? – Sit down, Bob Ross! – not a man for banging out vids regularly, but when he does, there’s nothing out there like it.
Onaretrotip –
Another wonderful bloke, Pete, is someone who reviews indie and retro games, as well as interviewing developers and folks in the industry, often tied to deep-dive documentaries on the likes of Lemmings and Syndicate.
A YouTuber that very much puts the subject first and keeps himself in the background, Onaretrotip is another channel that always has me coming back whenever a new video is released.
