Trust GXT 498P Forta Gaming Headset For PS5 ¬ Review
Trust have released a line of headsets licensed for PS5 in a range of colours (Nova Pink, Midnight Black, white, and Starlight Blue) that are available now!

We were sent the Nova Pink edition, which is a bright and vibrant colour that is definitely more a hot pink than baby pink. Well packaged and easy to set up, the Forta headset has a detachable mic arm and a universal 3.5mm cable that is soft, braided (thank the lord, much more practical than some stiff, plasticky cables I’ve encountered in the past), and also detachable - much preferred to hard-wired cables that can get yanked and require full unit replacements in such situations. I always find it comforting to know that cables can be replaced with my accessories, should the worst happen.

The headband is padded and comfortable – even for long gaming sessions, and the over-ear pads were easy to adjust and have plenty of range to fit your personal bonce size. As mentioned previously, the mic arm can be removed - which is great should you wish to use these for other purposes that don’t require the chat functionality.

The volume is handled behind the left ear via slider, and just above this is the mute switch, easy to access and in a practical position. The only niggle I had with the headset during my time with it was that the 3.5mm jack and cable that leads to your controller is on the left hand side and protrudes slightly downwards, this wasn’t an issue when sat upright but – and this is a problem I’ve had with other headsets and down to my personal gaming positioning – I tend to lean on some pillows on my couch, propped up on my left elbow and I found that the connection point was touching my shoulder, a minor irritation but a pet peeve of mine over the years!

In terms of sound, the Forta provides punchy audio that isn’t overly rich in bass, but instead naturally emphasises mid-range without any adjustments, this means that speech is clear, and you aren’t overwhelmed by the booming low-end. upon testing and discussing with my fellow online gamer, the microphone was as clear as my usual headset (which was originally  double the price of the Forta), and you can really ramp the volume up here, should you wish to do so, with the only negative to this being that it cane actually get so loud that it bleeds a little into the mic and my fellow players could hear their voices echoing a touch, so something to bear in mind if you tend to max the volume when gaming. There is also a removeable pop cover for the microphone, if preferred.

SUMMARY

This is a tasty headset that lacks flair in that there’s no RGB lighting or fancy gadgetry, but its appeal comes instead from the solid design and practicality.

The fact that both mic arm and connection cable can be replaced if there are issues down the line is always a boon, and the sound and mic quality are solid.

The mesh fabric is comfortable against the ears and whilst the synthetic leather looks great, I know that – as with all headsets that use this material– it will probably unfortunately end up peeling off in flakes a few years down the line.

All in all, a solid and durable headset that looks great in nova pink!
