Trust GXT241 VELICA Microphone

Microphones are one of those accessories that people can spend days comparing and ‘iffing and butting about’, much like turntables. I’ve covered some great microphones here at GF, but the Trust GXT241 Velica streaming microphone really made an impact with its sheer simplicity, accessibility and sound quality.

Specifications:

  • Pick-up Pattern – Cardioid
  • Sample Rate – 16 Bit
  • Frequency Range – 30Hz-18Hz
  • Max SPL – 130Db
  • Connector – USB-A
  • Cable length – 1.8m
  • Dimensions – 20x20x133mm
  • Weight – 318g

I have to kick off by talking about how beautiful and compact this thing is, it’s not cute though (no matter how often my fiancee said it during this review), the Velica is like a little wolverine – it may be small, but it has claws to back up that pretty little face.

Completely black, and sleek in terms of design, the microphone itself is chambered in a rubber mesh – which holds it securely in place – and, beyond the  USB power connection, there’s only a mute button to concern yourself with, on the butt on the microphone – perfect!

It really is plug ‘n play

That accessibility doesn’t affect the Velica in terms of ability, either. The sound is crisp and warm, with the all-metal (as is everything) pop shield ensuring that your voice is always clear and artefact-free. The lengthy 1.8-metre cable combined with its small surface area means that it’ll fit comfortably within your setup, and the foldable tripod instantly makes the Velica to the go-to microphone for me when travelling, I really am impressed at the cleanliness and clarity in the audio and design.
