You’ll find yourself diving into action with very little tutorial, and working out the majority of the buttons for yourself, as you barrel roll and loop-de-loop through various rings and missions, shooting your water guns at hidden gift boxes along the way in a bid to unlock all three islands and a host of aircraft.
In a tasteful design choice, you can either choose to swoop and twirl your way through the vibrant, cartoonish skies, happening across the scattered missions as you do so, or you can pause the game and dive into them straight from the menu.
The game is playable in both single and multiplayer modes, and co-op does feel the more fun way to play, as you can work together in both the open world collectible sections as well as the more focused missions, which have you racing around, and watering crops etc.
Whilst the audio is minimal, the visuals have certainly been overhauled from the Wii original, and the game runs at a smooth 60fps – even with another player involved, and the charming world, complete with sailing boats, waterfalls, and train tracks, speaks to a world of child-like imagination.
