Following on from our recent coverage of the Turtle Beach Kone II mouse – which I’m using right now, in fact – today I’m taking a look at the Turtle Beach Recon 70 for Nintendo Switch (and Switch 2).

Compatible with Nintendo Switch™ | Nintendo Switch™ Lite | Nintendo Switch™ - OLED Model | Nintendo Switch™ 2, the Turtle Beach Recon 70 comes in white with Nintendo branding, as this is an officially licensed product. Coming in at under £30,this is a bargain wired headset that covers a lot of ground in terms of flexibility – fitting both myself, my partner, and our young son, comfortably – whilst sporting straightforward design and ease of use.
Straight out of the box, the Turtle Beach Recon 70 is easy to get to grips with, with the headset being a snug fit, and the microphone designed in such a way to be practical, but not obtrusive. Should you not need it, it satisfyingly clicks back out of the way when gaming, although even when in use the length means that it’s not awkwardly in the way of your mouth as you game. The sound is punchy and immersive, with a nice range of volume available, you can really crank this up, should you wish to.

I have a pretty big bonce, and the design of the Recon 70 – whilst flexible in terms of how it can fit the heads of different age groups, does feel a touch snug after a while, so something to bear in mind if you – like me – have a comically-sized head, although it’s only something that came into play after gaming for some time.

The 40mm drivers pack a lot of clout, and the design is sleek, but it is worth bearing in mind that this is a wired headset. Whilst that’s perfect if you want to avoid needing to charge during your gaming sessions, and it works perfectly when in portable mode on your Switch, it’s not quite so ideal if you are playing in docked mode and have pets or young children around, as the cable will be dragging from your Switch, across the room, it's also not braided, and is hardwired into the headset, meaning that you can’t replace it should there be an issue.

Those points aside, this is a fantastic headset at a tasty price that feels solid and durable, whilst also looking the part. A thumbs up from us here at GF!
