Retro‑inspired hardware specialist 8BitDo is set to revive a cornerstone of 90s gaming culture next month, as Game Outlet Europe confirms the 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth Controller – Classic Grey will launch across Europe on March 20, 2026.
The new model blends the unmistakable silhouette and colour palette of the original Nintendo 64 controller with modern engineering, offering a faithful yet future‑proofed option for players diving into classic libraries on Nintendo Switch™, PC, Android, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
A Modern Take on a 90s Icon
While 8BitDo has already released Black and White variants of its 64 Bluetooth pad, the Classic Grey edition is the one many fans have been waiting for. Styled after the original N64 hardware — complete with the signature red start button and blue/green A/B buttons — it aims to deliver the most authentic retro aesthetic the company has produced to date.
Under the hood, however, it’s a very different beast.
The controller features Hall Effect Sensing Joysticks, using electromagnetic sensors to eliminate the stick drift that plagued many original N64 pads. A metal joystick ring further enhances durability and smoothness, ensuring the controller can withstand both nostalgic marathons and modern competitive play.
Built for Today’s Platforms
8BitDo has designed the controller with the Nintendo Switch Online N64 library firmly in mind, offering a layout that mirrors the original geometry while adding the conveniences modern players expect. Key features include:
Hall Effect Joysticks for drift‑free precision and extended lifespan
Optimised Switch Online support, including a tailored button layout
Bluetooth® and USB‑C connectivity for multi‑platform use
Dedicated home and screenshot buttons, rumble support, and a customisable turbo mode
Refined ergonomics that preserve the classic shape while improving comfort
“More Than Nostalgia”
David Karlsson of Game Outlet Europe says the Classic Grey model answers a clear demand from the retro community.
“The 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth Controller is about more than just nostalgia; it’s about fixing the hardware limitations of the past with the tech of the future,” Karlsson explained. “The response so far has been incredible, but we know fans have been waiting for that specific ‘classic’ look. We’re thrilled to bring it to European players.”
Pricing and Availability
The 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth Controller – Classic Grey launches across Europe on March 20, 2026, with an MSRP of €39.99 / £34.99.
