Shadows of Eldemir: Arif Games Resurfaces with a New Cosmic Horror Epic

A Missing Fiancée, a Forbidden Artefact, and a Village on Edge

Back in 2017, one of the first games I ever reviewed for Games Freezer – possibly the first, come to think of it! – was Arif Games’ Dark Fear, a great horror title that was available on PC and iOS platforms and was awarded our highest accolade of ‘ice cool’. At the end of that article I stated that I was excited for what was to come next from the Yorkshire-based Arif Games…and now, almost a decade later, that moment has arrived!

Details of Shadows of Eldemir are below; information taken from the Arif Games website, the game can be wish-listed on Steam and is due for release in 2027. If their previous work is anything to go by, this will be a beautifully crafted horror adventure dripping with atmosphere and ominous stylings. I for one am keen.

Shadows of Eldemir is an upcoming retro-inspired, Victorian cosmic-horror, point-and-click RPG adventure game, where a London schoolmaster travels to a remote Eastern European village searching for his missing fiancée, only to discover the archaeological expedition she joined may have disturbed something ancient.

The year is 1890. London schoolmaster Lucian West has travelled across Eastern Europe to the remote village of Eldemir after his fiancée, archaeologist Eveline Carrington, mysteriously vanished during an excavation in the Carpathian Mountains.

The expedition, led by distinguished London university professors, had uncovered a strange artefact buried deep beneath the mountain - something that contained ancient knowledge no human mind was meant to comprehend.

The Carpathians have long been a place of folklore and old superstitions. The locals often speak of vanished travellers and wandering spirits. Then some still fear a vampire scourge believed to have been destroyed many years ago. But since the expedition uncovered the artefact, the land itself seems to have 'remembered' what it was hiding.

Some believe the vampires have returned. Others fear something far older has awakened.

Shadows of Eldemir is a retro-inspired, cosmic-horror, point-and-click adventure RPG combining classic first-person exploration and puzzle-solving with a Victorian love story at its core.
