It's been a while since we've featured one of our favourite Twitter friends and gotten to know them a bit better through a series of questions. So today we are bringing the feature back and we are proud to present to you a friend of the freezer @supersisi_

Sisi is a Super Retro Gamer who loves the arcade and posts lots of cool pics from her daily gamer life (she also loves Pork Soup Noodles!)

Let's get started with Question 1, shall we?!

๐Ÿ•น️ History of Video Games – Bristol | "I had a quick search for anything gamey-gamey in Bristol and came across the HOVG" ๐Ÿ•น️ #Retrogaming #Arcade

"Whilst driving through Bristol my car doors and associated bodywork fell off exposing just me and my driver's seat!"

www.historyofvideogames.co.uk

After recently spending a hundred million ice ages in cryogenic isolation following myself and my immediate family contracting Covid, we decided a family trip was in order to get back out into the world and spent a couple of days in Bristol.

Naturally, as part of the trip planning, I had a quick search for anything gamey-gamey in Bristol and came across the HOVG, and I’m glad I did – as we had an awesome afternoon there!

๐Ÿ•น️Coin-Op: The Arcade Guide | Written by Darren Doyle | Greyfox Books | Review๐Ÿ•น️@greyfoxbooks #Retrogaming #Arcade

Available from - https://www.greyfoxbooks.com/product/coin-op-the-arcade-guide/

The world of arcade machines seems vast and full of undiscovered gold. I’ll regularly be reading books or articles on the subject and come across a handful of games that I didn’t even know existed. Often, they are variations on a theme, but I’m always keen to find out every last morsel of information available – especially if they are side-scrolling brawlers, a genre which I am particularly drawn to for its visceral, button-hammering thrills.

Coin-Op: The Arcade Guide is clearly a book made with a real passion for the subject matter, and whilst there are some rough edges in terms of clunky sentences, typographical errors and a very busy visual design – there’s a compulsive thirst to the way that the author presents the work, this is best captured in the introductory text to each section of the book; a real desire for the reader to share the joy and reverence that Darren Doyle has for these releases and the memories tied to discovering and playing them.

Antstream arcade has been around for almost a year now and it was something I was keen to get involved with.

For those who aren’t aware of the service, it’s a subscription-based site that allows you to stream games ranging from the 8-bit home micro-computers of the 80’s such as Amstrad, Spectrum and Commodore 64 through a selection of 16-bit titles from systems such as the Amiga and Mega Drive up to an impressive amount of arcade ports that span decades.

I decided it was about time I had a go at building my own arcade cabinet so at the start of lockdown armed with one sheet of wood and a Jigsaw I had a go. This is the result and while there's room for improvement I'm also happy with the outcome plus I enjoyed every moment of planning it and making it. So Arcades are mainly a thing of the past now although there are still a few dotted around they are nothing like what they used to be and I feel bad for new generations never knowing that feeling of putting 10p or 20p coins into these wonderful machines and having the time of your life well the time of my life.

The Isle Of Wight is my happy place when it comes to UK Holidays.

Firstly the place is beautiful and totally laid back.

Secondly, there's still lots of lovely Arcade Machines knocking about which means that I can have some fun in Amusement Arcades aside from the usual sea of grab machines and penny pushers.

In honour of my holiday to the Wight Isle here are some pics of two IOW destinations where I found some cool arcade machines.

For us at Kingdom of Carts HQ, Manchester is a great Expo to get to, it’s a straight three hour train from Cardiff and a brief walk from the station to the event and surrounding hotels, this is a mere sojourn when compared to the multiple train changes and hanging about required when getting to Blackpool, although that doesn’t slow us down. I wear flares…not skirts.

๐Ÿ•น️ Britt's Amusement Arcade Memories Amidst A Flooded Flat - Video Games Memories ๐Ÿ•น️ #RetroGaming #Arcade

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On
There is an undeniable connection for a lot of people to some form of gaming, no matter how distant or seemingly inconsequential.
A moment that I found really funny (in hindsight) was a few years ago in my old flat, my girlfriend woke me up at three in the morning because the bathroom ceiling was gushing with water (pinch me) and so I pegged it upstairs to wake up my upstairs neighbour (a guy in his thirties) who immediately ran down to my flat to see the damage. We headed into my living room to grab a load of towels to stem the flow, all in a complete frenzy due to the level of water coming through.
Amidst all of this, as we were running back to the bathroom, he stopped and pointed at something on display in our living room and said, “Is that Scramble? Wow, I had that when I was a kid, haven’t seen it in years!”.
Naturally, I walked over to him and filled him in on the finer points of our gaming collection until my girlfriend walked in and said, incredulously. “Umm….can you talk about games after we’ve stopped our bathroom flooding?”
Obviously, I split up with her on the spot.
