The Indie Booth That Fate Tried to Destroy — And Failed

Every year, Gamescom delivers its fair share of surprises… but few are as spectacularly unlucky — or unexpectedly charming — as the saga behind Road Truckers: New Beginning. What should have been a straightforward indie showcase quickly turned into a comedy of errors that somehow made the game stand out even more.

A Booth Cursed by Fate
Three weeks before the event, the team’s original booth organiser pulled out. Gone. Vanished. No Gamescom. They scrambled, found a new partner, and thought the worst was behind them.
It wasn’t.
When they arrived on‑site, their decorations — the entire visual identity of their booth — had disappeared somewhere between ordering, transport, and assembly. What remained was… a wall. A sad, empty wall.
In a hall full of towering displays, neon lights, and pristine branding, Road Truckers had the visual presence of a forgotten storage cupboard.
Turning Disaster Into Mystery
With nothing left to lose, the team leaned into the chaos. If the booth was going to make people say “What on earth is this?”, they decided to embrace it.
Armed with nothing but marker pens, they transformed the blank wall into a living, evolving graffiti board — a guerilla indie showcase powered entirely by improvisation and stubborn optimism.
Visitors are now encouraged to sign the wall, turning misfortune into a community‑driven curiosity magnet.
Even the PC Tried to Sabotage Them
Their assigned “PC” turned out to be a gaming laptop from around 2021 — possibly the weakest machine at the entire convention.
But the team fought back again. They optimised the game until it ran smoothly, proving that Road Truckers: New Beginning can survive even the harshest hardware drought.
A Game About Resilience… Living Its Own Story
The irony is almost poetic. Road Truckers: New Beginning is a truck‑driving RPG about rebuilding a forgotten town through grit, graft, and determination.
And here at Gamescom, the developers are living that exact narrative — rolling with every punch, adapting on the fly, and refusing to let bad luck win.
