Collectible Cars Shop Simulator
Being the father of a four year old that has more Hot Wheels cars in our house than Oliver Reed has receipts from Oddbins in his back pocket, the chance to cover Nostra Games’ Collectible Cars Shop Simulator was one that I leapt at.

Whilst it feels very ‘assety’ as a lot of the ‘simulator’ games can be, the lack of variety in NPC character models, fiddly controls, and endlessly looping music couldn’t put a dent in my enjoyment of the core gameplay – opening the store, hiring staff, upgrading where possible, and making dosh off flogging those sweet, sweet toy cars before closing up for the night and doing it all over again the next day. With very little in the way of a tutorial, Collectible Cars Shop Simulator throws you straight into the action, you’ll find that you have some cash, an empty streetside store, and a tablet that you can use to purchase upgrades. There are quite a lot of facilities available to you, although most are locked off until you level up somewhat. As much as your shop will expand in terms of spacing, shelves, additional amenities, staff, and stock – the core loop doesn’t change, you open up the store in the morning, tell the staff what to do, and order in more stock, adjust the pricing accordingly to try and make an extra couple of bucks – if you can! And serve the customers.

As mentioned above, the game is very ‘assety’, you’ll see the same character models over and over (sometimes with multiple clones being in the shop at once), and unless you can afford a staff member, you’ll be handling stock, binning empty boxes and manning the till as well, although I have to say that I found taking card payments, or getting the right change oddly fun, especially if they purchased one of my super rare cars, netting me a tidy sum! It is odd, though, in that someone may be buying a car for say…$20…but will give you a bizarre amount of money, meaning that you need to hand over loads of change. It keeps the pricing side of things a little more involved, but it isn’t particularly realistic.

As you potter around your ever-expanding shop, eventually putting up posters, racing car trophies, and ornaments etc. you’ll become very familiar with the main theme, and I really did like the lilting chill-hop tune for the first couple of hours, but after a while, I really wished there was a little more variety in the audio department. You can also open the packets of cars yourself and build up a personal collection – which the game allows you to show off in-store, proudly – or you can mark up the price to tyrannical levels, and hope some rich goof whips his credit card out to make that expensive purchase, bringing in some more fun aspects of the game in how you display your more collectible vehicles.

SUMMARY
Collectible Cars Shop Simulator won’t be to everyone’s tastes, but I really feel that Nostra Games have done a great job here in making the game fun and enjoyable (especially when considering it’s currently only a fiver on Switch!), although there are clearly budget limitations that hamper some aspects of the game, mainly in terms of a lack of variety in the audio and visuals.

That said, it’s a game I find myself returning to, and that endless loop has become oddly relaxing as I pootle around my shop, stacking shelves and making it my own little spot on the high street. I’m really looking forward to seeing what Nostra Games come up with next!
