In pre-internet days, gaming was something we did to kick back and relax at the end of a busy day. From playing Monty Mole on our Commodores to playing Sonic on our Megadrives, we spent our hard-earned cash on games that would entertain us.

Then the internet arrived, and gaming changed forever. It allowed us to become more social, giving us the opportunity to play games online with people from around the world.

It gave us the opportunity to play downloadable games, allowing us to play games almost instantly (unless you were on dial-up), instead of having to trek to the High Street games store for something to play. And the internet gave us the opportunity to do something many obsessive gamers have always dreamed of: the ability to make money from gaming!

While your family and non-gaming friends will probably tell you that you should go and get a proper job, you can show them how gaming can be a real money-earner. And despite their scoffing, you can remind them of the way they are probably trying to earn money from games themselves.

Those people who don't call themselves gamers are often taking sign up offers to Bingo and betting sites, and gambling their money on the mini-games based within. They will be using survey sites such as Swagbucks, and playing games to gain points that can be converted into money and special rewards. The next time they point the finger at you for considering making money from games, point the finger back at them!

Here are some of the ways you can earn big money.

Become a playtester:
Not a career for casual gamers, but if you enjoy pushing a game to its limits, and love finding all the hidden easter eggs and collectibles within a game, then this could be a profitable path for you. Of course, you will be hunting for bugs and glitches rather than easter eggs, but if you enjoy putting the work in, then this shouldn't be a problem for you. Contact the game developers near you and ask about any openings, or keep an eye on their websites for any job opportunities. And if you are interested in developing a career in the games industry, know that this will look excellent on your CV.

Become a YouTube celeb:
You have probably subscribed to a few celebs already so you will know how this works. You can talk about your passion to your followers, offer tutorials to those people who are stuck with games such as Bejewelled Blitz and Dark Souls, and review the latest games on the market. You can earn ad revenue on your page, make money from any subscribers who sponsor you, and you can flog any merchandise that games companies give you for promoting their games! You won't become rich overnight; you will need to hit 10,000 views before you are allowed to show ads, but if you have a gift for playing games and chatting about them, then you may stand a chance.

Become a professional gamer:
Unless you have been hiding a rock, you will know that eSports have really taken off. If you excel at the games you play, you can play games professionally, entering competitions that are held all over the world. When you start winning, you can earn more money from sponsorship contracts and endorsements. According to this website, video gamers may soon make more money than the top pro-athletes! Throw that in the face of your old P.E. teacher who criticised you for playing more Fifa than actual football on the field! Do your research online and look for gaming tournaments near you, and hone your skills on your games of choice.

So, are you ready to earn money from gaming? You can make a sizeable income from your passion, so continue your research online and find ways to turn your hobby into a career. We wish you every success.*
