Minecraft Players Beware: Malicious Mods Used in Sophisticated Cyberattack

Minecraft’s vibrant modding community has been hit by a dangerous cyber threat. Check Point Research (CPR) recently uncovered a three-stage malware campaign disguised as fake Minecraft mods, which were shared on GitHub to infiltrate players' systems.

A Multi-Stage Attack Targeting Gamers

Cybercriminals have exploited the popularity of Minecraft mods by embedding malware into seemingly legitimate files.

The infection unfolds in three stages:

1. Java Downloader: A hidden script activates upon installation.

2. Second-Stage Stealer: This component extracts sensitive data like login credentials.

3. Final Advanced Spyware: This more sophisticated malware harvests cryptocurrency wallets, browser passwords, and system information.

CYBERCORP XBOX SERIES X Review
While on the surface CyberCorp is your standard isometric twin-stick shooter fare, reminiscent of 2021's excellent The Ascent or PC port Synthetik, the hardcore loot mechanics and online co-op draw inspiration from the likes of Destiny or The Division, leading to a hybrid experience that sits between the two camps.

In the future, agents like you don't even need to leave the house to engage in corporate espionage - you can just upload your consciousness into a Synth, a tooled-up battle droid that does the hard work for you. Your former employer, the eponymous CyberCorp, has found a rat within their ranks, and has engaged the shadowy Operator as the middleman who sets you the task of rooting them out.

Pre-orders open now for DOOM™: The Dark Ages soundtrack on vinyl and CD
Bethesda Softworks and Laced Records have opened pre-orders for the DOOM: The Dark Ages soundtrack, composed by Finishing Move. Available on vinyl and CD, the release features multiple formats:

- 4LP box set (35 tracks) and double LP (17 tracks), each with exclusive vinyl colour variants from Laced Records and the Bethesda Gear Store.

- CD version (35 tracks) in a deluxe triple gatefold sleeve.

- Standard black vinyl option also available.

The soundtrack embodies the game’s “Stand and Fight” combat philosophy, blending thrash metal, doom metal, black metal, and traditional folk instruments for a raw, primal sound. The vinyl packaging has been carefully designed by id Software, with exclusive artwork and a debossed Slayer symbol.

This latest chapter in the DOOM franchise saw over three million players in its first week, marking one of id Software’s biggest launches. The composers aimed to honour DOOM’s legacy while carving out a bold new identity for its soundscape.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon Xbox Series X Review 9/10 "Take a swig from a true holy grail" ⚔️ @TaintedGrail_AR @awaken_realms @Aga_Szostak #IndieGame #GameDev

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On
I’ve played some very good games over the last year, but very few gripped me quite as much as Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. Polish developers Questline have created what I’ve secretly yearned for, for many a year - a spiritual successor to the likes of Oblivion and Skyrim with a nod to the darker side of life.

A huge world begging to be explored, tied to an Arthurian storyline courtesy of Polish writer Krzysztof Piskorski, who originally created the world of the Tainted Grail for a board game that was an enormously successful Kickstarter project back in 2018. Questline previously released a game based in the Tainted Grail universe that was in the deckbuilder genre back in 2021, called Tainted Grail: Conquest – which I haven’t played – but the fact that four years later they’ve released a fully-fledged open world RPG in a ‘Western’ style is incredibly impressive, not to mention the full voice acting, audio, narrative and all the other glorious aspects of Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon that I’ll delve into here.

Basically, this game is absolutely fantastic and has kept me apart from my trousers for over two weeks now, it’s one of those games that creeps into my mind throughout the day and pulls me back towards it with an almost sexual magnetism. If there was ever a game designed to seduce me into neglecting my family so I could play it all day long in 2025? Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is that game.

How Retro Gaming Influences Modern Game Design

Retro gaming can be considered the good old days, when we had limited save slots, had to blow on our cartridges before using them, and enjoyed pixelated graphics. While it was a simpler time in gaming, it helped to shape today’s gaming market as we know it. As such, it's safe to say retro gaming is not dead. Instead, it lives on as an influence, a blueprint, if you will, for your favourite current AAA titles. But, how have these retro titles helped shape the present?

NACON RIG 400 GEN2 HS in Arctic Camo Review By Britt

NACON RIG 400 GEN2 HS
The first thing you notice when unboxing the headset is how striking the camo design is, the colours match the PS5 and result in a nice visual parallel. The Arctic Camo is a PlayStation edition, but there is also another edition - Urban Camo - which is designed for Xbox consoles.  The headset works with most consoles (PS5,PS4,Xbox and Switch) and PC so you can pick up either design, it doesn't just have to match the console, maybe if you are in the middle of the Antarctic you would pick the Arctic Edition and if you’re in the middle of a concrete jungle you can pick up the Urban Camo edition...or maybe just pick whichever design you like most.

Stunt Flyer Xbox Series X Review
Originally released on the Wii back in the ‘00s, Stunt Flyer is now unleashed on Xbox with a host of visual upgrades to bring it up to speed. Also playable in local multiplayer, Stunt Flyer is a game more suited to more casual, or younger gamers.

You’ll find yourself diving into action with very little tutorial, and working out the majority of the buttons for yourself, as you barrel roll and loop-de-loop through various rings and missions, shooting your water guns at hidden gift boxes along the way in a bid to unlock all three islands and a host of aircraft.

Rich attempts to get to grips with Prologue: Go Wayback! which is an open-world survival game where players must navigate a procedurally generated wilderness with minimal resources.

The goal is to reach a weather station and signal for rescue, but each playthrough unfolds differently due to the dynamic environment. Players scavenge supplies, craft tools, and adapt to unpredictable weather conditions ranging from calm daylight to intense storms.

The game emphasizes emergent storytelling, allowing players to shape their own survival narrative.

Agent Fall Nintendo Switch Review
Whilst the blurb for the game may look to convince you that this 2D run ‘n gun title will provide a serious challenge, it is actually a very short, simple and quite charming little title that provides an hour or so of blasting action, with a paper thin story that acts as an excuse to move from place to place, all the while taking down enemies in droves in single player, or co-op.

From the Website:
'Agent Fall is an action game inspired by classic titles, where you face an intergalactic government conspiracy. With aliens siding with the government, you, as an agent, must take down this dark alliance. Prepare for frantic combat, with powerful weapons, relentless enemies, and epic bosses.'

Kemono Heroes Nintendo Switch Review
From the developers that brought us A Hole New World – an 8-bit styled title - comes Kemono Heroes, now making the leap to a 16-bit style, complete with chunky pixels, parallax scrolling, and a lot of weapon-based swipey-swipey action. Good!

Playable with up to four players in co-op, Kemono Heroes has a mystical Eastern vibe in which the main characters are anthropomorphic animals, each with their own special skills, although the main attack of each is a ‘Strider’-esque swipe of their blade - a little nod to one of its influences.

Echoes of the Unread Dev Blog #3 Explores Mechanics And The Challenges Of Developing The NES

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

Retro-focused indie game publisher and developer Mega Cat Studios and Clever Cat Games are excited to announce that the third episode of the Echoes of the Unread developer blog is now live, offering even more insight into the creation of this enchanted NES adventure platformer, now on Kickstarter

In this latest dev blog entry, Clever Cat Studios' Matt Tuttle gets delightfully technical, unpacking the creative and coding hurdles of building Echoes of the Unread for the NES. From handcrafting custom tilesets to navigating the quirks of 8-bit limitations, Matt shares how he brought his retro vision to life—debugging, disassembling, and digging deep into the hardware every step of the way.

But it's not just about code. Matt also breaks down Echoes of the Unread’s game mechanics, including its layered approach to exploration, memorable boss battles, and the unlockable Retro Mode. This hardcore feature, which becomes available after collecting every hidden page and beating the game, introduces a brutal new twist—permadeath, pushing even the most seasoned players to their limits.

Survivalist: Invisible Strain Xbox Series X Review 7.5 / 10 "More zombies than you can shake a selfie-stick at!" 🧟‍♀️🧟‍♂️🧟 @bob_the_PR_bot #IndieGame #GameDev

Survivalist: Invisible Strain Xbox Series X Review
Zombies are very much here to stay! Luckily, I am nowhere near tired of the shambling monstrosities in gaming, and so the chance to delve into Survivalist: Invisible Strain was very much up my strasse.

Casting the player in the role of a wandering survivor, Survivalist: Invisible Strain is playable in both campaign and sandbox modes, with the sandbox mode especially offering an incredible amount of customisation options to suit your preferred approach, with the ability to pretty much knock the zombie element on the head and focus purely on city-building and the more social aspects, should you so wish.

The game features graphic novel-style visuals, with quite a unique screen layout, including portraits of the characters and enemies taking up a fair chunk of the screen real estate. It’s quite an idiosyncratic premise, but really does give Survivalist: Invisible Strain a sense of identity, and the focus on individuality in the game also ties in with this design aspect.

Inspector Waffles: Early Days Game Boy Color Review
A feline-centric police procedural with a lightness of touch and a sharpness in its design, Inspector Waffles: Early Days has very quickly become one of my favourite Game Boy games.

A prequel to Goloso Games’ 2021 release Inspector Waffles, Inspector Waffles: Early Days follows the cat detective in his rookie days, as he finds his place in Cat Town.

Under the guiding eye of your partner, Pancakes (yes, this game will make you hungry), you’ll crack six cases in total, cases handed into your capable paws by your chief – Patches.

The first of these cases deals with the theft of a rare video game cartridge (good!), and you’ll soon find yourself falling into the satisfying pattern of discovering clues, interrogating suspects and solving crimes– as well as hopefully discovering some secrets along the way!

Monster Train 2 XBOX Review 9/10 " One hell of a freight" 🚂👹 @TheMonsterTrain #IndieGame #GameDev

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On
In most visions of apocalyptic battles between heaven and hell, between angels and demons, between God and the Devil itself, the battleground is a scarred wasteland and the warriors are on horseback, wielding swords and axes. Something distinctly more Tolkienesque than Shiny Shoe’s interpretation in the Monster Train games. If their idea is to be believed, then the final tussle on earth takes place in a train carriage more reminiscent of something halfway between Snowpiercer and the climatic fight in Broken Arrow.

But what of the game itself? I’ll get this out straight away. Fans of the original certainly need not worry. This is everything the first game was and more. Expanded and enhanced in terms of options, cards, clans and mechanics.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 PS5 Review 10/10 "I’m Terrible at Clair Obscur and I Love It" ⚔️ @SandfallGames #IndieGame #GameDev

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On
I am comically bad at RPGs. Something about having to look at percentages and statistics during my leisure time just shuts my brain down. The lizard brain takes over, and I pour everything into strength—because obviously, swinging a sword the hardest is the best way to fell a mountain-sized Elder God.

I’m even worse at turn-based combat. I’ll inevitably end up with a team of glass cannons who get wiped out if someone sneezes on them—and they can’t even do that much damage because I didn’t bless their weapons with the Scrotum of K’Narl fifteen hours earlier.

I tried Baldur’s Gate 3, based solely on the enthusiastic response to its narrative and rich characters, but the combat was a brick wall I couldn’t surmount. It’s always humbling when the loading screen stops saying “You can change the difficulty at any time” and starts saying “Why don’t you have a nice lie down instead?”

Enter Clair Obscur: Expedition 33—the first (I repeat: first!) game from French developer Sandfall Interactive, and the latest critical darling trying to woo me back to a genre that routinely makes a fool of me.

Gulikit Elves 2 Pro Controller Review
There are a lot of controllers out there in the world, and sometimes something comes along that scratches a specific itch that you may not even know that you had. I believe that this is the first Gulikit product that we have covered here at GF, and it’s a heck of a product to kick off with!

Available in two versions – black or retro - the Elves 2 Pro Controller gives very strong Sega Saturn controller vibes in the feel and style, with the ‘black’ being reminiscent of the EU/US Saturn pad and the ‘Retro’ nailing that much-loved Japanese Saturn controller vibe.
