Step into the shoes of Noah, an Ancile field agent, as you explore a deserted deep-sea mining station in 2053. Tasked with unravelling the fate of a missing crew, you'll be challenged by intricate puzzles and an atmosphere thick with mystery.
This immersive experience sets the stage for a gripping adventure that will keep you guessing until the very end.
Cthulhu: the cosmic abyss draws clear inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft’s signature style, immersing players in a world that is both visually striking and atmospherically rich.
The game’s environments transport you from the haunting depths of the ocean to surreal, otherworldly dimensions, creating a setting that is both captivating and unsettling.
While the detailed statues and intricate structures contribute to the overall mood, I found myself wishing for more encounters with the monstrous entities themselves. Creatures whose presence could have added tension and unpredictability to the gameplay. Although glimpses of these monsters appear throughout the game, they rarely pose a direct threat unless you cross their line of sight, at which point they become suddenly and violently aggressive.
As you progress through the chapters, the complexity of the paths can quickly become overwhelming, often making it difficult to determine the correct way forward. I found myself relying on built-in guides and tools to navigate the labyrinth environments. The inclusion of the mind palace, a familiar mechanic in investigative games, is well-executed and helps streamline the organization of clues. While the core mechanics are approachable, the lack of pacing variety can make the experience feel tedious at times, with repetitive backtracking and deduction sequences slowing momentum and diminishing engagement.

One thing I really appreciated was the range of settings you can tweak. Whether you want some extra help or feel like making things tougher for yourself. I always find features like this handy, especially in games packed with puzzles. It’s nice to have options that let you play at your own pace and style.

SUMMMARY
Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss pulled me in right away with its eerie atmosphere and striking visuals. I loved slowly piecing together the mystery and tackling the brain-teasing puzzles. It’s definitely a game for players who like to take their time and soak in every detail. Still, I have to admit, the pacing sometimes dragged, and I found myself wishing the monsters posed a real threat to shake things up. Even so, I genuinely enjoyed my time with the game. If you’re into Lovecraftian horror and don’t mind a slower, more thoughtful pace, there’s a lot here to appreciate.
7/10
