OSRS: Is it Worth Getting the Quest Cape?

Here's what you should know if you are considering getting the Quest Cape.

Getting the Quest Cape is a milestone many players look forward to because of the fun they get from enjoying the experience of skilling up and getting OSRS gold. On the contrary, other players are not driven by skilling up and getting OSRS gold specifically for quests and can hate the questing aspect of the game. They might only enjoy getting the Quest Cape as a means of getting it out of their way, even though that can be a short-lived victory as you will no longer be able to equip and use the Quest Cape once a new quest gets released.

General Overview of the Quest Cape

You must first complete the unsolved quest to be able to use the cape again. You won't lose the OSRS gold you spent buying the cape from the Wise Old Man in Dryanor village. It will safely remain in your bank or inventory so that upon completing the newest quest, you can equip it and enjoy using it as before. One cape costs 99k OSRS gold, and you can buy as many as you want.

There are several ways in which you will benefit from owning your Quest Cape, and they are directly linked to the progression of your OSRS account, especially since the Quest Cape is achievable quite early in your OSRS career. Still, some players question if the difficulty of getting it is realistic.

The Struggle

One of Jagex's most contested decisions is bringing more of the multiplayer element as a requirement to get your Quest Cape. This is because, for many players, the quest cape is locked behind the entry-level mode of Theatre of Blood, one of the three raids currently available in OSRS. Even though you can complete the raid on the entry-level difficulty solo, many newer players find this extremely challenging and costly.

This is one of the reasons why Jagex has even included a question about the necessity of the Quest Cape for completing the Lumbridge and Dryanor elite diary in one of their recent polls. 52.6 per cent of the respondents answered “no” to this question, and for any question to pass, a super majority of 75 per cent needed to vote yes.

Fairy Ring

Getting the Quest Cape sometime before you train your Construction skill high enough to get a fairy ring in your player-owned house will save you a lot in terms of investing your OSRS GP into something else.

The Quest Cape will teleport you countless times to the Legend's Guild, the closest teleport to a fairy ring after the fairy ring in your player-owned house. Even though it is better, faster, and more convenient to have your fairy ring constructed in your POH, having the Quest Cape will help you immensely as you won't have to rush to pour gold into one of the most expensive skills to train: Construction.

Lumbridge and Dryanor Elite Diary

One of the most significant OSRS account milestones is completing the elite Lumbridge and Dryanor diary. It is closely linked to owning a Quest Cape, as one of the tasks for completing this very rewarding diary is to use the emote on your Quest Cape.

This is one of the diaries that will primarily help you with some fantastic quality-of-life upgrades, such as you will get the ability to use fairy rings without wielding a Dramen or Lunar staff. Another great benefit of the Lumbridge and Dryanor diary is that you will unlock your 6th sloth for blocking slayer monsters. This will significantly decrease your chances of getting a slayer task you don't like and increase your chances of getting a slayer task that you do want either because it's fast XP or will bring you a lot of rewards. Therefore, the quest cape is needed to maximize your chances for the slayer skill.

Nightmare Zone

The nightmare zone is a great way to train your combat skills. You can either use Absorption Potions for an AFK time of up to 20 minutes or Overload Potions, Super Magic, and Super Ranged potions, which are all specific to the nightmare zone, to boost your combat skills for a faster combat experience.

The nightmare zone will send you into a dream state where you will be able to fight various quest bosses of your choice, and you can do this solo or as a team sharing your dream with your friends. Each time you enter a new dream, you will need to pay a tax, which will vary depending on the type of dream you choose and the difficulty of that dream.

You will also be able to obtain rewards from the zone to compensate for the gold you spend, including upgrades to critical pieces of equipment such as the Slayer Helm or the Berserker's Ring.

The best way to go for 99 combat while AFKing is the customizable rumble in the hard mode, for which you will need to pay 26k OSRS gold without the Quest Cape and 16k OSRS gold if you have the Quest cape. Given that you can spend at most six hours within a single dream before you get automatically logged out and that you'll need to pay another fee to enter again, you will save a lot of OSRS gold if you own the Quest Cape. This is especially true when you're going for 99 combat at the nightmare zone or for any high level.
