Hotel Renovator PS5 Review
If you're a fan of building and decorating games, then Hotel Renovator will probably be on your radar. In this game, you're tasked with remodelling a hotel, clearing away decades of junk and vermin to create a gleaming, stylish, and appealing space. With two modes - story mode and sandbox mode - you have the freedom to create the hotel of your dreams.

At the start of the Hotel Renovator, you're given a rundown hotel by your uncle. It's not much to look at, but with some hard work, you can turn it into a 5-star resort. As you progress through the game, you'll unlock new floors, including rooms, studios, villas, and penthouses. On the first three floors, you'll also unlock new room features such as a restaurant, a gym, and a spa. The stars in the game represent the hotel's standard, and they unlock after completing specific tasks in story mode. As you unlock new stars, you'll also gain access to new furniture, which increases the hotel's standard and guest happiness.

Hotel Renovator also features a small story that follows your Grandpa (Roy), and a woman named Eliza. It's a romantic storyline that adds a nice touch to the game. Throughout, you'll meet and host several different people, including a vampire, a hen party, and a band. There are also events that pop up on the screen, such as catching a chicken, adding hay barrels to a house, or decorating a blue room. These events reward you with money and positive feedback.

The controls are very easy to use, mainly using the R1 and L1 buttons to move across the furniture categories and L2 to access the main categories. While the controls are easy to use, the camera controls could be better. As you progress, you'll unlock equipment that helps you remove and clean up more efficiently, this includes a dynamite feature that removes everything in a room at once.

You'll also get devices to clean up the room, such as a hoover, or a maid service. However, the maid service feature didn't work properly in the game during my playthrough, unfortunately. The game features a wide variety of walls, floors, ceilings, and furniture to choose from, and there are plenty of colour swatches to choose from to make your rooms look pleasant. However, the game does have some glitches, such as the selection to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to pop-up events not appearing, or completing objectives but not receiving the reward money.

As previously mentioned, the maid service feature also didn't work for me (and many other players, it seems), and the lighting in the game was inconsistent and glitchy.

SUMMARY

Overall, Hotel Renovator is a basic building and decorating game that's enjoyable to play, however, the glitches in the game can be frustrating, and players should be aware of them before purchasing.
