Abandonware: The Horror Collection PC Preview 😱 @Fossil_Games #IndieGame #GameDev

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

Fossil Games’ Abandonware is a collection of retro-styled mini-horror games that pack a great horror punch. The story that connects this collection is quite captivating.

The development team found an old 3.5-inch internal hard drive, and after cleaning up the hard drive, they found a custom operating system and this collection of mini horror games. After investigating, the team grew concerned and, with the police bringing no help, they released it to the public to see if we could uncover the secrets of the mysterious hard drive.

Mordhau Xbox Series X 8/10 “Fun and frustration” ⚔️🛡️ @mordhaugame #IndieGame #GameDev

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

I'm going to start my review by admitting that although I thoroughly enjoyed Mordhau, god I suck at it. The expression ‘as useful as a chocolate teapot’ really does sum me up when it comes to this genre! The first thing I did when I loaded up the game was to laugh at the idea of playing through the tutorial, and instead jumped straight into a large battle. Within the first thirty seconds, I had pressed the button to un-equip your weapon, and had swapped my sword for my fists - I was in trouble, but luckily I only had that problem for about forty seconds before a kind person stabbed me in the gut and put me out of my misery. Instead of re-spawning, I decided that it was probably best to quit out and actually play the tutorial.

Death Becomes You PC Game Review 2/10 "Perhaps I’m just not the right person to be writing about anime magical lesbian teenagers" 👧 @pixelhunted @quill_studios #IndieGame #GameDev

Perhaps I’m just not the right person to be writing about anime magical lesbian teenagers.

As I sat on the London Underground playing Death Becomes Her on my Switch I became intensely aware of the passengers on either side of me. Before this moment I’d never been self-conscious about gaming in public - why the hell should I care what some random strangers think of me? But I realized a glance at my screen would show two canoodling cartoon schoolgirls. Let’s face it, this is a powerfully bad look for a middle-aged man.

ZX Nightmares by Graeme Mason – Book Review "The funniest, most quotable book about gaming that I’ve ever encountered" 📖 @Retro_Fusion #Retrogaming

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

As someone who spent far more time with the C64 and Amstrad computers during the 8-bit wave, I’ve always voyeuristically enjoyed the love that others have for the ZX Spectrum and its idiosyncratic sound and visuals. I do actually own a ZX Spectrum, but – whilst I have amassed a few dozen games for it – I’ve yet to sit down and really get hips deep, my only knowledge of it mainly comes from the many incredible Kim Justice videos that I’ve watched over the years, and game reviews in magazines that I’ve read through– in terms of actual hands-on action, I’ve probably spent less than an hour actually playing one myself in my entire life, not for any reason other than I simply wasn’t around any when I grew up.

SEGA Mega Drive Game Preview – The Viking & the Ninja 📯🥷 @DelayedAgainAB #IndieGame #GameDev

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

The Viking & The Ninja is an action RPG similar to the Dungeon Explorer series, set in an anachronistic fantasy setting with a lot of humour. The main theme and gameplay centres around cooperation between the two playable characters, but to succeed you also need to explore, fight bravely, and talk to other characters with important information.

Oxenfree 2Review 7.5/10 "All We Hear Is Radio Ga Gaaaaah!!" 📻👻 @nightschoolers #IndieGames #GameDev

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

When I originally played Oxenfree on my Nintendo Switch I was late to the party and managed to buy it during a Switch games sale due to a recommendation on a Podcast I listen to. I really enjoyed the first Oxenfree and I especially fell for the radio-based supernatural story that had me guessing all the way.

This time around I got Oxenfree 2 on my mobile phone via the Netflix Games part of the Netflix mobile app. I was impressed that it was there and couldn't resist the opportunity to go back to the world of Oxenfree for more transistor radio high jinks!

Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals feels like it is a worthy sequel to the beloved original indie adventure game Oxenfree and it also expands on the original game's strengths, whilst also introducing some neat new ideas to the formula.

Ghostrunner 2 Preview by @PixelHunted "harder, better, faster, stronger than the original" 🥷 @GhostrunnerGame #IndieGames #GameDev

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

I missed Ghostrunner on its original release, but when a polished next-gen edition landed on PlayStation 5 in 2021 I fell deeply dippy in love with its lightning-quick, lethal and acrobatic combat. Since then there’s been nothing else that’s captured the same sense of dynamic combat, where death you or your opponent’s death is a cyber katana swipe away.

Now, courtesy of a demo courtesy of developers One More Level, that same adrenaline rush is back. What’s immediately apparent is that everything great about Ghostrunner is present in the sequel. This is an evolution rather than a ground-up reworking, to the point where my initial suspicions were that little had fundamentally changed.

Another day, another Video Game LoFi record to review, and this is a good thing.

This one features re-imaginings of true Renaissance developer Toby Fox’s music for Deltarune Chapter 2.

This release comes from Curaga Records as usual, on single black vinyl with a really nice holographic cover and heavyweight black paper sleeves. As with all VGLF releases, it’s got a premium feel.

Best Budget Projector For Under £30 VANKYO LEISURE 430W Projector "Final Fight On The Big Screen!" 📽 @VankyoOfficial #HomeCinema #BudgetProjector

I recently bought the VANKYO LEISURE 430W Portable Projector from eBay second-hand for £25 and it was in immaculate condition. I decided to set it up in the kids' playroom/games room so that we could have family movie nights in our very own budget home cinema. I also connected the Raspberry Pi up to the projector to test that out and it plays like a dream. Here's a video talking you through my set-up and also a quick play on the Raspberry Pi / Retropie with some good old Final Fight - Hope You Enjoy It!

Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission VR Meta Quest 2 Review 7/10 "The Wolf is Back!" 🐺 @Virtuallyz_G

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

Operation Wolf is a game that pops up quite often whenever my family – my Dad, especially – talk about video games. Some of my earliest memories are of him hunched over that plastic Uzi, blasting away at a myriad of enemy soldiers….and never quite getting past the second jungle stage.

With these fond memories swimming about my mind, it was quite exciting to discover that Microids would be releasing this new VR version of the game, and whilst it may have its flaws and visual differences to the original, this captures the sense of mindless blasting action that Operation Wolf provided to so many fans back in the ‘80s.

Gamify Your Favourite Sports with These Fun Options 🏀⚽️⚾️🏐🏈

The gamification of sports is a great way for people to be involved in their favourite sports on a new level. You might be a fan of playing certain sports or more of a spectator, but the gaming aspects of engaging with them can be fun for anyone. You might not even be a big fan of watching or playing any sports but you still like playing games related to them. There are multiple ways you can gamify sports, turning them into something you can be much more actively engaged with. Some of them are directly related to real gameplay, while others let you do your own thing.

Those Games (or, YEAH! YOU WANT “THOSE GAMES,” RIGHT? SO HERE YOU GO! NOW, LET’S SEE YOU CLEAR THEM!) Review 6/10 "A great send-up of fake game ads that lacks the key fun factor" 🤳 @D3_PUBLISHER #IndieGames #GameDev

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

Designed as a series of actually accurate versions of games glimpsed in fake mobile gaming adverts in the days of yore, Those Games does a good job of representing the games that people who click on those ads assumed that they would play, but it’s a premise that – to me at least – is more fun in concept than in action.
