From Over 9000 Zombies! developer Loren Lemcke comes this charmingly barmy ice hockey arcade game, arriving on Switch a couple of years after debuting on Steam. There are overtones of the Speedball games and the Brutal Sports series, but with an even sillier sensibility. It’s the kind of game Sensible Software might be making if they were still around.
Planet Coaster's Ghostbusters DLC is my game of choice today as I take a look at it in Rich's Rapid Review.
"Planet Coaster is proud to introduce its most ambitious content pack, Planet Coaster: Ghostbusters. The pack boasts a brand new, story-driven scenario and employs the talents of Dan Aykroyd and William Atherton, who voice their roles as iconic Ghostbusters’ co-founder, Raymond Stantz, and Special Agent Walter Peck, from the 1984 classic."
Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP 2 on the SEGA Mega Drive is the first Pit Stop for Rich's Road Trip in Episode 1 of this feature where I'll be test driving some classic console racing video games from the glory years of console gaming.
The Guys at www.wrestlingarcade.com are preparing to launch a Kickstarter to fund this awesome video gaming inspired book project called 'The Complete Pixelated Guide To Pro Wrestling's Greatest Moments'.
I thought we'd do a feature on the premise of the book and specifically list off some of the greatest pixelated wrestling moments that will be included in the book...
Game Title: Dollhouse Platform Reviewed: PS4 Rating: Melted I first came across Dollhouse a couple of weeks ago when Faye and I watched the trailer on YouTube, it was atmospheric, intriguing, mysterious and completely drew me. In short, it was everything that the actual game isn’t.
If you finally invested in a top of the range VR headset, chances are that you will want to get the most out of your investment. There are different games you can play, and you will be able to enjoy real life adventures without leaving your gaming room. In case you want to get the best experience, here are a couple of types of games you might want to use.
Fighting Fantasy
Back in the 90s, fighting fantasy books used to be a big thing. Now, in the world of virtual reality, you will be able to experience the same thrill in HD. You will face real quick decisions, just like in a normal action game, and they will have different outcomes. Make sure that you choose the right software and graphics, and the topic that has always fascinated you. Virtual reality gaming has changed significantly in the past few years, and you will need to pick the best of the best.
I’m a big fan of the Sega Saturn pads, having used them pretty much solidly for almost a quarter of a century. That mouse-like shoulder button click and the way they feel so perfectly designed for your hands combined with how snugly they fit in the system itself makes them stand out as one of the best of the retro gamepads for me. Retro-Bit has gone with a straight-up clone of the original design here, with the added bonus of that classic Sega ‘creak’ being removed from the D-pad.
Last year Britt took a look at Coffee Crisis on the PC and it received an ICE COOL rating for its solid arcade brawler action At first, its sub-fiver price point its inclusion of visual artefacts, mini-games, fun cheat modes and general charm.
"The Retrobit N64 and Retrobit SEGA Saturn controllers get the Review and impressions treatment from our resident hardware guru Britt from the lair of Kingdom Of Carts"
Game Title: Gato Roboto Developer: Doinksoft Platform Reviewed: Nintendo Switch Rating: Ice Cool
Whilst not reinventing the genre, Gato Roboto is a nifty and, more importantly, fun game that will capture your attention for the time it takes to take your feline companion through the gruelling quests before it.
It's the final episode of Golf Has Never Been So Much Fun and Wilson ProStaff golf gets the 3 hole treatment this week and what a great golf game this is.
Tiny Metal launches with lengthy load times on the Nintendo Switch and then jumps to a lengthy cut scene intro that just types text at you at a hundred miles per hour and is almost impossible to keep up with. Tiny Metal has been described as the successor to the Advance Wars franchise which unfortunately I have never actually got round to playing. Tiny Metal has you move infantry, tanks, and aircraft with varying speeds and combat stats around a battle grid with the objective of capturing the enemy’s Head Quarter building or destroying all of the enemy armed forces. Meanwhile, you will jostle for control of resource-generating cities and unit-producing factories on the war map.
๐"American Fugitive is my early contender for Game Of The Year 2019! My god, I love this game already. Join me as I take a look at that gameplay and give you some of my thoughts on this great game!" ๐
๐️♂️ "This is a SEGA Master System golf game that I missed out on the first time around but it's light years ahead of anything from this era! I think I have a new Golf Game Crush! GOLFAMANIA BROTHER!!" ๐ช
Turn-based tactical RPGs is a genre that attracts fervent followers. To the more casual toe-dippers like me, you could compare Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark to something like X-Com (though that’s a tenuous comparison I realise) in that the turn-based battles mean that you don’t need reflexes, but more a chess-brain, always thinking a few turns ahead.
For us at Kingdom of Carts HQ, Manchester is a great Expo to get to, it’s a straight three hour train from Cardiff and a brief walk from the station to the event and surrounding hotels, this is a mere sojourn when compared to the multiple train changes and hanging about required when getting to Blackpool, although that doesn’t slow us down. I wear flares…not skirts.
๐ข "Planet Coaster is a game I have been meaning to play for years now and thankfully now I have played it I'm fully on board with this theme park sim that takes me back to the wonder of 1994 but overlays this intricate and rewarding gameplay loop." ๐ก
A top-down twin-stick procedurally-generated dungeon romp, Helmut: TBFH is a really fun game that gets a lot right…except for the lack of a local campaign option.
It's a tale as old as time, and I'm not talking about a Disney movie.
Since more or less the dawn of the era of electronic gaming, console gamers and desktop gamers have been at each as others throats – sometimes clearly playfully and sarcastically, and sometimes maybe not so much.
I remember my time with VBlank’s previous title, Retro City Rampage very vividly. I was hips deep in how fast-paced the story was, the fun factor of the driving and shooting mechanics as well as enjoying the pop culture references (before they became extremely tiresome and over-used in games in general).
As retro City Rampage was a title with a very solid 8-bit aesthetic, I remember thinking at the time that a sequel set in a 16-bit world would be cool…and it is.
The Sony PS5 is one of the most hotly anticipated console releases of all time. We all know how successful the PS4 was, and it continues to lead the way in the current console generation battle. With incredible performance and a host of excellent games, the PS4 wowed people all over the world by providing what many saw as the ultimate gaming experience.
๐พ "This is a lovely looking handheld emulator from My Arcade and it's called the Pixel Player. It comes with 8 Data East Classic Arcade Games and 300 other games" ๐พ
⚔️ "It's time for some tabletop adventuring on your PS4 so let's go toe to toe with the evil hordes and explore the forests in For The King by Iron Oak Games" ⚔️ ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️
๐ฎ "The Games Freezer Mailroom has received a surprise package from those lovely people at Retro-Bit that contains a Retro-Bit Tribute 64 for Nintendo 64 - Ocean Blue, Retro-Bit Official SEGA Mega Drive USB Controller 8-Button and a Retro-Bit Official SEGA Saturn Control Pad for Sega Saturn. Come see me unbox these bad boys " ๐ฎ
After installing Yakuza 0 on my PC… and then promptly uninstalling it because the game crashed every time I pressed ‘Y’ on my controller, I instead purchased it for the PlayStation 4.
๐"World Class Leaderboard is the oldest swinger in town! This game brings back the memories of how tough retro golf games actually are. Can anyone tell me the yardage on a 7 iron out of the rough of the first hole at St Andrew's?" ⛳
Having been to Paris on several occasions (possible Faye’s favourite place in the world) and drunk deep from the well of gaming there, we decided it was time for a change and planned a trip to Cologne and Berlin over the space of a week. Yes, the country is historically and culturally rich, almost every street corner has a story behind it and you could get lost for days, constantly learning more and more about this hub of Europe….but will I find a copy of Arx Fatalis on the Xbox for a fistful of Euros?
Game Title: Table Top Racing: World Tour - Nitro Edition Developer: Playrise Digital Platform Reviewed: Nintendo Switch Rating: Melting
The genre of arcade racing has long been one of my favourites, from the days of Super Sprint to the Amiga PD gem High Octane, the isometric fun of Super Off-Road, the inevitable Micro Machines and not forgetting PS2 classic Mashed (and under-appreciated pseudo-sequel Wrecked) the genre is a staple of gaming days at mine for literally decades. Table Top Racing is a neat spin on the genre by bringing in a Mario Kart sensibility to the miniaturised racing theme, the game, however, has a history stretching back to 2013 that does cast a shadow on the current Switch release.
๐๐ฟ "Become an archaeologist with the help of your trusty Robot (Six) as you explore the many moons and decipher a lost language in Heaven's Vault" ๐ฟ๐
๐ง "The Venom Nighthawk Stereo Gaming Headset gets the unboxing treatment by Rich. Take a look at a great budget headset by Venom for Switch, PC, PS4, XBOX and Mobile" ๐ง
There is nothing like completely immersing yourself in a totally different world the way you can do in an RPG or role-playing game. In fact, this genre is one of the most popular and long-lasting of all types of game, even if aficionados are thought of as somewhat nerdy. Slurs be damned though because just about everyone can have fun in an RPG, and to prove it we've listed some of the best choices across different platforms below.
๐ฎ๐"I've just been sent some amazing gaming t-shirts from Nerdity.co.uk and I thought I'd show you the Super Mario Kart / Pink Floyd Cross Over Tee and the awesome SNES Control Pad Tee!"๐๐ฎ
It's that time of year when your mind begins to stray to Car Boot sales and the dream of bagging that ultimate car boot sale deal. I've never had much luck with Car Boot bargains but that's probably because I'm not getting there early enough to loot those car boots in time! This year I have vowed to get there nice and early and to go pre-armed with a nice little cheat sheet to ensure I know the rough going rate for each console I'm likely to come across.
