๐Ÿฉธ๐Ÿ“ธ MADiSON PS5 Review 6.5/10 “Many Scares To Be Had, But Far Too Formulaic” ๐Ÿฉธ๐Ÿ“ธ @transvaalgf @MADiSON_Game #IndieGames #GameDev

MadiSon is a first-person psychological horror game, in which you play as Luca, who wakes up to find his hands covered in blood, and his father screaming at him through a door, questioning how he could ‘do this to the people he loved.

It’s a very exciting and tense opening!

You manage to escape the room and now explore your grandparent’s home, where you learn its dark secrets and understand how Luca has come to be in this position.

๐Ÿฅท Shadow Gangs Dreamcast Review 8/10 "More Ninja Action Than You Can Shake a Katana At!" ๐Ÿฅท @ShadowGangs @WaveGameStudios #IndieGames #GameDev

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

The next step on WAVE Game Studios’ quest for Dreamcast world domination, Shadow Gangs is a 2D platformer (mostly) that takes a lot of inspiration from the arcade classic Shinobi, in terms of visuals and gameplay.

You are Master Dan, a ninja master who sets out to take down a ninja army and rescue his family in a plot that’s so ninja-centric that it feels like it was written by Godfrey Ho. Good.

๐Ÿ‘ฟ๐Ÿฅง Hell Pie Xbox Series X Review 7.5/10 "A wonderfully ghastly concoction straight from Satan’s kitchen" ๐Ÿ‘ฟ๐Ÿฅง @SluggerflyDev #GameDev #IndieGames

Warning lights flash in my mind whenever games go for humour - as so often cheap gags and lazy writing are brought to the fore at the cost of gameplay, or perhaps the humour doesn’t connect with you personally.

So every attempt at it elicits a sigh. However, the trailer for Hell Pie showed what seemed to the naked eye to be a surprisingly polished 3D platformer. Having fancied this genre for a while - the last I played was the sublime A Hat in Time - I thought I’d give Hell Pie a goosey, and by Jove, it was a wise move.

Where It All Began

It was about 10 years ago when I first had the thought.

I was bored with the daily grind of my life and how I was spending my free time. I was in a rut and I knew I wanted to do something to get out of that rut. It was time to do something for myself to enrich my life and feed the inner creativity that had been buried deep inside me.

The problem was that I didn't have a clue where to start or what to do.

I’ve been following the development of Gamedec for a couple of years, playing the PC preview back in 2020 really gave me a taste for the thought of a choice-rich RPG that was bereft of any combat in the core gameplay.

I think at the time, I’d covered a handful of games with clunky combat and the thought of an RPG fully focussed on the dialogue / investigative side of things seemed a very cool way to go.

I’m not a completist. I’m not all about getting 100% on games. I didn’t even think about trying to hunt down all TWO HUNDRED pigeons hidden across the vast map of GTA4, for example, just for the sake of a fleeting smirk of satisfaction and a digital plaque on my avatar’s wall.

๐Ÿ”ช The Quarry Xbox Series X Review 8.5/10 "The Best Supermassive Title Yet" ๐Ÿ”ช @SuperMGames #TheQuarry

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

We at GF – specifically, myself and Transvaal – are big fans of Supermassive Games’ approach to the horror genre, especially in the ‘one session and done’ The Dark Pictures Anthology series, which appears to be growing stronger with each release. And so we approached The Quarry with the (little) hope that we’d be in for a good time watching people have bad times, and that hope was rewarded with – what we believe to be – the best Supermassive Games release yet.

๐ŸฏBright Memory: Infinite Xbox Series X Review 8/10 "I'm No Cosmologist" ๐Ÿฏ @FYQD_Studio #IndieGame #GameDev

I'm no cosmologist, but I'm reasonably sure that if a black hole opened up in the sky then we would all be dead in very short order. However, this is the event that kicks off Bright Memory: Infinite, and by the end of the game (which is only about 2-3 hours), everything is broadly similar to the way it was at the start.

Although you have killed quite a few people, as well as some unexpected historical warriors, in that time, as well as engaged in a gun battle on the wings of a plane that is being sucked into the said black hole.

A title that fuelled millions of hours of gaming upon its release, and for a lot of people, was the nucleus for some of their most treasured videogame memories.

We’ve been lucky enough to cover some of Bitmap Books’ previous releases, and all have been some of the most impressive tomes to cross our desks, from the likes of the (as far as I’m concerned) legally definitive A Guide to Japanese Role-Playing Games to the more -surprisingly – emotional hit of A Gremlin in the Works, Bitmap Books are seemingly the pinnacle of quality books for the gaming scene. Perfectly edited, beautifully illustrated and wonderfully written.
