Let me just state straight away that IronCast oozes class.

From the start it feels good as it sets the scene for a brilliant video game.

The core mechanic is the Match 3 board that resides in the centre of the of the battling IronCast.

You will utilise the match 3 element in order to gain valuable resources required to beat the other mech and defend your own mech’s structure.

Attacking abilities  consist of a Weapon A which has rapid-fire with low damage and Weapon B which has one pulse-fire with higher damage. There are also various active abilities that you can enhance your arsenal with.

The defensive items that you are able to utilise are the walking ability which enables you to almost dodge attacks and the shield defences which can block incoming fire and even rebound it back at the enemy mech if you have the right ability equipped.

After each victorious matchup you can retreat to the hangar to repair yourself. The Hangar enables you to repair and upgrade your systems after each battle and is integral to the levelling up system. Whilst on the Match 3 board you may come across scrap and if you match 3 scrap you will earn this as currency to make upgrades.

You’ll also get the opportunity to repair on the fly during a battle as you try and manage resources, attacks and match 3’s!

Throw into the mix a cool aiming system which lets you pick opponents areas to target and you have a whole host of things to consider in this puzzle game of strategy and chance.

The presentation is stylish and functional and enables you to easily pick things up. By the end of the two battle tutorial I was confident that I would be able to make a go of the actual game whilst also realising that there was a deeper game to discover underneath the core mechanics and principles that were outlined in the tutorial.

I adore the steampunk aesthetic and the idea that the commanders of the Ironcast Mechs are of a higher social standing than the average infantry soldier.

The whole package put together makes for the kind of game that draws you in as soak up the atmosphere of an olden days London under attack.

This is the kind of game I would recommend to anyone who likes a game you can play at your own pace. You get to use your noggin whilst also experiencing the thrill of the mech battles.

So, what are you waiting for?
Jump into your Ironcast, buckle up and get ready for a brilliant experience on the PS4.

Ratings Explained
ICE COOL (Great Game Recommended)
MELTING (Just Falls Short Of Greatness)
MELTED (Not A Recommended Purchase)

+ Awesome Steampunk Look & Feel
+ Great Match 3 System
+ Easy To Pick Up (Hard To Master)
+ Branching Storyline dependent on
+ Replayability is high as you are given a different path to take each time you play
+ Commendation system is a great touch as you are awarded for your services to king and country with medals which can be spent on permanent upgrades even after you reach a GAME OVER

Suggested Improvements:
- I would like to see more character from the enemy mechs as in the early battles I fought nameless mechs / steam tanks. If I had more of an understanding of who it was that I was towards them it would draw out more emotion from the player.
